COMMUNITY Biden to officially nominates Kentanji Brown Jackson for US Supreme Court. Update: KBJ becomes 1st Blk woman Confirmed to the SCOTUS

This might come off in a way I do not intend for it to. Real question if anyone knows the answer. Has Clarence Thomas always been a conservative? I know terms were different back then. I remember watching the news as a kid and seeing segments on Thomas confirmation hearings and Anita Hill and how the talk among black people was about her trying to bring a black man down. Now majority of black people despise Clarence Thomas.

With all that said I'm asking the question because I wonder how many black people if they were in the senate would vote for Clarence Thomas knowing he is conservative just for the historic moment of putting a black man who goes against what they believe to a lifetime job.

Tim Scott deserves all the shit that is talked about him and them some.

Just a thought.

As far as I remember the adults in my family at the time didn't like him at all and knew he was trash. My mom in particular was pissed when he was confirmed specifically because of Anita Hill's testimony.

Good to hear cause most of the shit I heard back then was more negative shit about Anita Hill and nothing really about the kind of person Thomas was. Seems like you were around some informed people who knew what was really what.

He wasn't looked too highly upon then but Clarence Thomas also came along when many were beholded to simply having a black person in a position of power was good enough. So that's where alot of the "Anita Hill is just trying to take a Black man down" sentiment came from. It wasn't so much that people thought Clarence Thomas was somebody he wasn't as much as it was people simply wanting to see another Black person in that seat of power and hope they'd eventually work for us.

Sounds about right.

To the bold its unfortunate but many of us still beholden to that.

Thanks for the answers @SneakDZA & BlackRain

Part of why I can't garner any excitement for this historic appointment is because of the bullshit dog and pony show that came with the nomination. The fact that she had to be subjected to all of that racist bullshit when ACB and that bitch ass muthafuka named Brett were basically handed a seat on the court for nothing is never gonna sit right for me.

Appointing one Black woman, the first one ever, and not until 2022 at that is not enough to makeup for all of the other bullshit. They would literally have to remove every single white SCOTUS for me to even care about the courts or their bullshit approval process.
