I can't believe I'm saying this but y'all do realize not every artist is going to have a general consensus classic right?

The certified classic albums appear to be albums that naturally evolved into classics. I can't think of a classic where the artist went in saying, you know what, I'm going to make a classic for this project.

So Drake doesn't have a classic album. Ok. Is he the best? No. Is he trash? Not imo. I would rather listen to most of his work over a lot of people.

If you don't bang with this album, that's ok but using the classic metric is crazy cause how many classic albums come out a year? That's a serious ass question.

We are a long way from the Jays, X's, Nas, CMR, etc of them all dropping fire ass projects in the same year. People need to stop having that classic or nothing mentality when it comes to judging music.

My two pennies

I think the issue is Drake has been on top for like a decade and he is the biggest male artist in Black music since Michael Jackson...(you could argue The Weeknd or Kanye West too.)

So it's hard watching a guy put out mid most of his career but because it's well-written and engineered mid and expertly fits a format, you can't really deny it.

I got that stupid ass song 2 Sexy in my ears bro, I don't even like that shit.

My dad loves that song Laugh Now Cry Later.

I don't think Drake ever really create a bad album and he understood that Pop, RnB and Rap were bound to become the same genre before everyone else and cornered the market.

Drake will never have a classic album but 20 years from now, all his songs are gonna be played on the classic Hip Hop/RnB channel.

...now you don't need classics anymore. How many rules gon get rewritten for duke??

Ghostwriters, don't matter.
Singin instead of rappin, don't matter.
Pop instead of hip hop, don't matter.
From screwed, to bounce, to grime, to dancehall, to patois, don't matter.
Duckin the fade in a battle, don't matter.
Zero classics, don't matter.

All this for the real life Dangerous from Get Rich Or Die Tryin' fame. Shout out to corporate payola I guess.

Take Care is a classic tho

Kanye’s Life of the Party is a better song than anything on CLB. Aubrey a whole hoe for leaking it, and throwing Stacks into the middle of their silly shit.

The term "instant classic" needs to be removed from hip.hop. it's got people trashing really good albums because it doesn't meet some made up criteria of being able to be deemed unskippable after 1 listen. There's plenty albums I wasn't fond of at first but grew on me over time. That's what happens with music. It either grows with you or you enjoy it/don't for the moment and move along. But this idea that every project gotta be this life changing epic that will timestamp a moment in your life is overblown

You get it ✊🏾🤝🏾

Selective reading is going to be a the death of a lot of you. Y'all stop reading at the first thing you don't agree with instead of reading the entire response to see what the complete thought is.

What I said was if you are looking for a classic album every single time you listen to an album, you're going to miss out on some decent to good music.

Not every artist is going to have a generally consensus classic album. That's all I'm saying. Not every person that has thrown or caught a football is going to the hall of Fame but does that mean they had a bad career? No.

Y'all need to stop with this all or nothing approach to shit.

I'm not even a fan of Drake like that frfr but I can admit he has quite a few cuts I like.

Cool. They want him with the GOATs though.

Drake is projected to be the player that has a good career but not make the hall imo.

He's achieved so much at this point in his career but he does give off empty stats kinda guy cause of his largely inconsistent body of work.

Drake is still at a point in his career where he can pivot and potentially be in the same convo as the greats but maybe he values other things. Idk

He s gonna make the hall of fame first ballot..... he ll just be the player that never wins a championship ( no classic album)

Drake is stamped and goated.... what he s done has never and prolly will never be done again....... he just doesn’t have that definitive undeniable album

Drake is gonna make the HOF of rappers mainly because few have had a decade plus run of being at the top like he has. Regardless of what you think about his music his longevity is undeniable and he's done what few artist in any genre let alone rap have done.

This a horrible take. Good Career? Your first few words of your second sentence contradict that. Not many can say they've had the run he has. He 1st ballot, @Gene Parmesan stole my comparison i was go make lol
