How To Tell Your Coworker That They Smell?

Big_Ev

Mr. Brick City
Yesterday I was training with one of my coworkers on shipping medical samples. We were at the computer looking over the steps and I started to smell rotten eggs. At first I thought it was one of the samples that went bad. But it was my coworker. This is not the first time he came into work smelling. My question is how do you tell him or her that they smell without losing your job?

I was that manager that had to tell an employee they stink. The lady had a touch of ADD or something but she was the sweetest and hardest working employee I had.

I just had to break it down gently like “there are times when we meet that I notice an odor. Maybe you don’t notice it so I wanted to let you know because I don’t want you to be oblivious to the fact that others notice it as well and may just be uncomfortable telling you about it. I don’t want anyone, especially upper management, to have a reason to not want to work with you. You are such a critical part of the team with so much potential I don’t want there to be anything that holds you back from reaching that potential.”

Got to make it about them and you’re telling them for their benefit.

That used to be me.

But I found out later that everybody goes through a stage in their life when they don't shower every day.
I went through a spell in my last year of college where I was just lazy as hell and didn’t shower like I should. I wouldn’t go to work like that but I might run to a class or an appointment or something stinking.

Now I shower all the time and I look back on that time like, the fuck?! It’s just 10 minutes, lol. No excuse.

tbh at my old job we used to have a nigga that always came to work smelling like ass. Str8 b.o. It was like homie did 3 hours of yard work, then jus put on his clothes n came to work.....nigga was stank.

Then one day, he and this broad (a co worker) were having a very unprofessional argument on the floor (at work in front of everyone). And at the very end she shouted out "and that's why you stank! Always coming to work smelling like shit!!"

Everyone's jaws dropped, I was shocked.

But guess what. That was the last day he ever came to work smelling like shit ever since. Homie smelt like roses from that day forward

Sometimes alil tough love is the best thing for all involved

They damn near had an intervention wit’ this smelly white dude when I first started here…had everybody in his shop (5 people) sitting across from him telling him how unpleasant it was to work around him cuz of his B.O. Apparently they had private discussions with him for over a year and he never changed…led to tha employee handbook getting a “personal hygiene” section put in it….smh

Point is…

Y’all niggaz waaaay too grown to be out here stankin’ in these streets bruh…tighten tha fuck up lol

Go to your boss and let them deal with it
