Enh....I like tha movie but don’t think it’s a classic per say...I do feel like Jack was almost playin’ a character of a mob boss...Leo n Matt were dope tho...I know mad niggaz that do consider it a classic and I don’t complain cuz I’m sure I got some “classics” they think just “ok”...I’m gonna have to say overrated a little I guess if tha consensus is classic tho....

When we did the "10 best movies of the 2010s" , 8 of the 10 on my list were Leo movies. He's probably my favorite actor. I fuck with Scorsese heavy.


But objectively, this shit is just another all star cast movie that didn't perform IMO.

But there's one movie I know we're gonna do one of these threads for that I already know I'm gonna have to unload clips in. I'm gonna be in my @Chicity "Clarence" bag lol

AP posted it's rating in the OP. They got this shit almost at 100%. This shit should be ranked in the 70s.

It’s kind of a loaded question tho bruh...that’s why I only said overrated if its being considered a classic...just like I’d say it’s underrated if niggaz try and say it’s trash...can’t even be rated properly if you have it vice versa....

Imo high rating/low rating aren't synonymous with what makes a movie a classic.

Like we can all agree Friday is a classic but its widely rated a 7 across the internet.

That's why I'm saying the rating isn't what makes a classic or not. Its 2 completely different things imo. And if you dont validate it for black films why go crazy validating it for white ones.

Valid point.

With that being said, I think most of the people selecting "properly rated" feel this movie is a classic.

But maybe moving forward it should be made clear if said movie is considered a classic or not by most in our community.

so is it overrated in that regard?

In terms of Belly, everybody keeps talking about how great a movie it is, but when you start hitting them with those questions...the answer is usually, "its a classic to me, i can watch it anytime its on" b/c they dont want you exposing the glaring flaws it has as a movie, and not some hood classic which is usually met with a buncha qualifiers.

I asked on my TL if people were ready to discuss how bad that movie was and was met by two people who said what I just typed. They couldnt explain why they liked it, but then went to the default, its opinions and you cant say whats right or wrong. Bullshit lol

in the case of Friday, RT might rate it in the 70, along with viewers, so I would consider that as underrated b/c it is just a good movie. Its not a hood movie, you dont need to put no disclaimer or anything. If I can suspend disbelief, it has a plausible plot, conflict and resolution.
