At the end of the day I ain’t telling no person how they should raise or what they need to do w their kids....but all the trust funds kids I’m friends with can be categorized as underachievers for sure and the reason why they don’t try that hard is because they know they have a trust to pull from

All the parents I've managed money for with this mentality dont seem to be good parents anyways. Their kids tell me they were never around and weren't really there for big life moments when they needed them. Then there are some who are completely worthless because they dont have to work so there's no drive in them.

I can't speak on how to parent because I dont jave kids. When I have kids tho, I'm leaving my fortune to my kids and I'm gonna be there for them. I'm gonna push them to the path they feel pulled to and I will financially support them every step of the way wherever I can.

What if they drop out of college, move back home and they're always smelling like weed?

My baby Rachel Weisz gonna make sure the me and the kids straight anyway.

For me it depends on the kid/kids. Do they stand for the same shit? Do they want to push the legacy forward? Or they on some other shit. It really depends.

His money tho. He can do what he wants. So fair.

Jackie Chan doing the same shit....I can respect it these kids have had all the advantages in life if they do what they are posed to do they should excel in life without depending on an inheritance

His son is a whole fuck nigga.

So is jackie chan.

I always thought leaving legacies by leaving resources was the thing

No. It's not the thing. It's a thing. Another thing is giving your kid a head start in life, but then making them blaze their own path in the world if they want to be financially prosperous, rather than being gifted millions of dollars by you, based simply on the fact that he came out of your nuts.

ok chief but I don’t see nothing wrong with giving your kid an ample head start.

Who said there was anything wrong with it? All I said from my very first post was that there is nothing FOUL about NOT leaving your kids millions of dollars.

And we're not talking about giving your kid an ample head start. He's already gonna give his kid an ample head start. We're talking about leaving your kids millions of dollars. That's not a head start.

The thing about it is that unless you die in a freak accident or had your kids super late, they should have made their way before you die anyway. Anything you leave them should be seen as a fall back. Shit happens, so there's nothing wrong with making sure your fam can make it through the hard times relatively unscathed. This whole covid episode is proof. It's a lot different for the rich than it is for everyone else.

The owner of MARS super market left everything to his son and now the company is bankrupt and out of business. Should have left the business in more capable hands. Same with some of these sports teams. His son would have been better of with a trust fund and no soul ownership of the business.

I think something WE are missing in this thread is the need to spread wealth among our own tho. This is how these white folks have stayed wealthy over the years, by passing it down to their kids over generations we as black people need to do the same and hope are children do the same tbh.

we do need a thread about it....but what are people doing to leave or even begin to build generational wealth or financial literacy?
and how to teach their kids to maintain the wealth they may inherit and how to stay away from and recognize those who are only after the money.

the shit can start with a simple life insurance policy...the right kind.
its not as hard as some may think. its all about listening and learning.
knowing what you dont know and being ok with asking

i can point to a few threads on this site that can get anyone started on generational wealth.
