Ellerbe To Hearn: Hate on What? Everybody is Laughing at You!

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe has quickly hit back at some of the statements that were made by his promotional rival, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing.

In a recent interview, Hearn explained that Ellerbe has been unfairly critical of the streaming service DAZN. And the British promoter questioned Ellerbe's intentions when it comes to liking certain tweets on social media, tweets which are critical of DAZN and Hearn.

“He calls DAZN, the dead zone,” stated Hearn. “He’s become a hater. He’s always talking about haters and how bad they are. Why would Leonard Ellerbe hate on a platform that is giving fighters an opportunity to make career high payday to box more often than they’ve ever box before.

"Ellerbe should know better. He should be actively encouraging DAZN to pay fighters more money. When I look at Showtime, I’m not criticizing Showtime, FOX, or ESPN, I think it’s brilliant. I think any platform that’s investing in the sport of boxing and are letting boxers in this dangerous sport earn career changing money should be encouraged. Why is he trying to put down DAZN, is he scared, is he a hater?”

Ellerbe, who promotes super featherweight champion Gervonta Davis among others, disputes any claim that he's hating on DAZN, Hearn or anyone else.

"Hate on what? Let me get this straight, he had what he claimed to be the number one heavyweight who supposedly had the most traction at the time, brought him to America for a debut, put him in a short-notice fight he shouldn't have never been in fighting a guy like Andy Ruiz, who has tremendous skills and just came off of a fight, got him beat, and now he's the number four guy," Ellerbe explained to Fighthype.com.

"What is there to hate on? Bob Arum just outmaneuvered him; took his champ [Jose Ramirez] and tricked Eddie out of several million dollars in a fight [vs. Maurice Hooker] that he knew he couldn't lose. Now Bob returns back to ESPN laughing with the belt and the bag of money in hand, but I'm a hater? Yeah, okay; yeah right!

"Eddie's a good promoter who likes to hear himself talk, but a lot of the sh*t he talks about doesn't even make any sense. Everybody's laughing at him. He's running around here acting like he's got Canelo. That's why Oscar [De La Hoya] had to check him. He's always trying to be seen and heard; go sit your ass down somewhere."

New York - It’s been close to a year since the streaming platform DAZN arrived on the combat sports scene. Since then, the platform has delivered the likes of Canelo Alvarez (52-1-2, 35 KO’s), Gennadiy Golovkin (39-1-1, 35 KO’s), and Anthony Joshua (22-1, 21 KO’S).

Although there are still many skeptics because their United States subscription numbers are unknown, there is no disputing that DAZN has made a big impact on the world of boxing.

Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport has been instrumental in DAZN's rise and his company provides the bulk of their event content.

However, he admits that his ongoing penetration of the United States market has been tougher than expected.

“I was probably a little naive thinking that the other promoters and networks would roll over and succumb to the offers I made,” Hearn told a group of reporters at the Golovkin-Derevyanchenko press conference to announce their fight on DAZN. "They stepped up as well. It was a little more difficult than I thought it would be, but we still are spending.. I haven’t spent it all. I got a lot of spare cash from the budget. We've been a little reckless. We had to make an impact on the market. But now we got the fighters, now we got the subscribers, and the platform.”

Hearn admits that he has to be a little careful with the way the marketplace is.

“It’s a lot easier to go to fighters,” stated Hearn. “Deals that were offered to fighters are no longer on the table. We have to be smarter. We have to see who’s delivering, we have to see who’s putting bums in the seats and who’s driving subscribers. Now we have to look at that more closely. Fighters with contracts coming up, we have to look at them. We have to keep delivering on subscriber numbers.”

One fighter Hearn has tried vehemently to sign has been four division champion Mikey Garcia (39-1, 30 KO’s). Hearn has heard the rumblings from Mikey’s trainer and brother, Robert Garcia, who recently informed BoxingScene.com that they received a very lucrative offer from the British promoter.

“I saw that, one that he really can’t turn down.. they’ve lost their leverage, I might reduce the offer since he said that,” joked Hearn.

“A year ago I spoke with Mikey Garcia. He looked at me like I was mad. He didn’t know who I was and what DAZN was... and I said to him in one year, I said give me one year and let’s talk. It’s been 10 months and look what’s going on. It’s not just Mikey Garcia. It's 5 or 6 other guys looking to jump ship to DAZN.”

Andy Ruiz is promising to come through with a dramatic repeat of his massive victory from June.

Anthony Joshua suffered his first career defeat and also lost his WBA, WBO, IBO and IBF belts to Ruiz in a stunning upset at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Ruiz, who accepted the fight as a late replacement, dropped Joshua four times before the contest was waved off in the seventh round.

After a period of uncertainty, Ruiz finally agreed to face Joshua in a rematch on December 7 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Initially, Ruiz balked at the idea of facing Joshua in the country - but Joshua and his handlers, pursuant to the rematch clause, had the power to select the fight's venue and location.

Late Friday night, Ruiz took to social media and promised to end Joshua's career in the desert.

“I’m excited to announce my rematch with Anthony Joshua. In the first fight I made history and became the first ever Mexican/American heavyweight champion of the world. I am grateful to Saudi Arabia for inviting me. I took it to AJ in 'The Big Apple' and I’m looking forward to ending his career in the Desert. Don’t miss this fight," Ruiz stated.

"I will show the greatness of Mexican boxing in Saudi Arabia and in every corner of the world. Viva Mexico!"

Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, believes the unexpected location is a good move for the growth of the sport.

"We had approaches from Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar," he said.

"We wanted to go somewhere that had a vision for the sport of boxing. We already knew Saudi Arabia was for real and investing in the sport.

"We have to realise that there is another world out there outside of Cardiff and Madison Square Garden. We have an obligation to grow the sport to new areas and regions. This event could change boxing forever. If Saudi is going to invest in these fights you could be seeing a big change in the dynamics of the sport, which truly excites me."

Yarde has heart and proved to have a good chin. He fought back and had some really good moments in the 8th round when he had Kovalev badly hurt but for most of the fight Kovalev was just a little too much for Yarde. Yarde was exhausted in the later part of the fight and I thought they could've stopped it in the tenth, he had nothing left. Yarde has nothing to be ashamed of though. He has never fought at this level before. He started boxing when he was 19 and had only 12 amateur fights. This man only had 30 fights in his entire life. He was simply too green. Respect to both fighters.

Everyone keeps on talking about Canelo vs Kovalev. I just can't see Canelo move up to 175 and be successful against fighters naturally that much bigger than him. Kovalev is not the same fighter he was a few years ago but still damn good.
 
I thought yarde had a shot late...

I've got Spence by UD in an ugly one sided fight. Porter is going to make it a rough physical and dirty fight. I do hope Spence knocks him out but I don't think that will be the case. Porter will survive but lose a wide decision.
 
I fully expect Spence to chop him up beat the body then kill the head but Spence value is he will test you physically and run you over if you ain't bout it but Spence is physical as fuck.. Porter will have a moment or two

That's a bold prediction. Campbell is very good but Loma is a special kind of fighter that makes good fighters look average. Would be an incredible win for Campbell but it's highly unlikely.
