HBO A Black Lady Sketch Show

I kept an open mind, because i like all comedy, but after looking more into it, I know it wont be funny.

The title of the show is "A Black Lady Sketch Show", that alone tells me they are focused on the wrong thing and just want this to be funny to american black women & not just be funny in general. This was definitely pitched to the network like "We need a sketch show with an all female minority cast, to let female young people know, you can be a strong female woman of color and be funny".

People who do comedy for a niche market, always turn around pointing fingers and getting mad when only that niche market finds their shit funny. At most some of the guests will make it sorta funny.

I'm guessing only black american women and black gay men, 18 to 30 something are going to watch this on the reg. But it definitely wont be funny, but all the black feminist blogs will hype it to seem like its the funniest show ever & say didnt get as big as it was supposed to cuz men are misogynistic or w/e if it gets cancelled after a couple seasons.

This is my fear, generally I'm not the creators target audience. Just like horror movies

But no Deadeye, I hope they succeed and open more doors lol

Problem is, there's really no demand for this kind of content.

So, she's basically trying to create demand where there is none.

There's huge demand for another season of Insecure, but she doesn't care about that.

She just wants to prove that she can create a hit female show that doesn't involve men.

Doesn't make good business sense at all.

Who are you to say what there is no demand for it just because you aint checking for it tho?

Have you seen any demand for anything like this?

If you have, then show me..........because I haven't.

Granted, there may be some demand in the demographic she's trying to target..........but nobody outside of that demographic cares about it either way.

Even within that demographic, the demand is only there because Issa put it out there and they just want to see if it's any good.

Otherwise, I haven't heard anything from anyone to indicate that they're clamoring for an all-female sketch comedy show.

While it wasn't my cup of tea didn't Comedy Central have that show Broad City that ran for like 5 seasons with two female leads doing sketches n shit? From the little I saw of that show... I didnt laugh and it wasn't for me... somebody enjoyed it tho and it lasted 5 seasons.

I'm not willing to say there's no market for a female led sketch show.. or a sketch show period. Either folks are gonna fuck with it or they not.

This is getting black entertainers, writers and producers paid.. if it's good and funny to ME.. I'm gonna support it.

I didn't know that there was a demand for In Living Color or the Chappelle Show but they turned out great.

Well, Bill Maher is back from hiatus.........and guess what show premiered after it?

:hahaha:

Tried to have an open mind.........gave it a chance.........but there wasn't anything funny about it at all.

To be fair, I wouldn't say that it was horrible.

It just seemed like they were trying too hard to be funny........instead of actually being funny.

I thought Broad City was funny as hell and like you said it lasted a good little while. I think females in general not just black ones will check out this show and if it's funny it will thrive.

I will check it out because I'm black and I think some of the ladies involved along with the special guest are funny. Not to mention it's helping black folks get work

She's her own worst enemy.

Said it in the Insecure thread, but she just can't help herself.

She can't even embrace the success of her own show because her fans thought that Lawrence's storyline was just as interesting as her and Molly's.

Hope this shit flops.

Bruh you could've just saved yourself the characters and just said "I hate Issa".

Lol

lol

I don't hate her though.

I love Insecure and think she's funny in it.

Mainly because the show exposes a lot of birdlike behavior and how a lot of these progressive, liberal women really think.

Did you hate on that Little movie as much as you did this show?

Since that technically took her attention away from Insecure... the same gripe you have with this show....just asking....

Anybody got a link tho? lol I haven't seen it yet lol

I never saw that movie.

Only the preview.

Didn't hear much about it after it debuted in theaters.........so I'm assuming it didn't amount to much of anything.
