WWE Evolution (Womens PPV) Thread 10/28/18

Lol “big name”

Last night, it was announced by WWE that Trish Stratus would be returning to face Alexa Bliss at the Evolution pay-per-view. She is not the only big name returning for the show.

As first reported on today’s Wrestling ObserverRadio, Nikki Bella will be on the show and the current plan as of this past week is for her to face Ronda Rousey, likely in the main event of the show.

“The plan for Ronda Rousey as of earlier in the week was Nikki Bella,” Meltzer said. “The idea was that they are the two most famous women’s stars in the company and that they should be the main event of the first women’s pay-per-view because they would be the two best at getting mainstream attention. That was the idea. There were other ideas batted around. Like everything, it could change tomorrow but that was the idea.”

The idea for Evolution is that this is a big show and not just a regular pay-per-view so that is why they are bringing names like Bella, Trish Stratus, Lita and Beth Phoenix.

It’s been widely expected that Bella would be one of the names returning since WWE has been hyping that over 50 women will be on the show but it’s somewhat surprising that they are choosing Bella over a full-time performer for Rousey’s match.

As of now, here is the card for the Evolution pay-per-view taking place on October 28:

Alexa Bliss vs. Trish Stratus
Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella
The finals of the Mae Young Classic

This show will also feature women’s title matches from Raw, Smackdown Live, NXT, and NXT UK.

Bella has only wrestled twice this year. She was part of the Women’s Royal Rumble match in January and she wrestled in a Mixed Tag Team Match with John Cena against Elias and Sonya Deville back in March at a live event in Madison Square Garden. Aside from that, she hasn’t wrestled a semi-regular schedule since early 2017 during the build-up for Mixed Tag Team Match with Cena against The Miz and Maryse at WrestleMania 33.

It looks like former WWE Women’s Champion Michelle McCool will also be returning to the ring for the first-ever all-women’s Evolution pay-per-view on October 28 in Long Island.

A graphic for McCool’s Evolution appearance was shown on screens at the Barclays Center last night before the WWE NXT “Takeover: Brooklyn IV” event, according to PWInsider. As noted, another graphic displayed was for WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus vs. RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss. That match broke on the internet and WWE later officially announced it for Evolution.

There’s no word yet on who McCool will be facing at Evolution but this would be her second match in 2018 as she came out of retirement back in January for the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble match. She officially retired back in 2011.

Other names being advertised for Evolution are WWE Hall of Famer Lita, WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix (who may be on commentary), SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella, Asuka, Nia Jax, Ember Moon, Natalya, Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Naomi, Shayna Baszler, Bayley, Sasha Banks and new NXT Women’s Champion Kairi Sane. The following matches are set to take place:

* The finals of the 2018 Mae Young Classic

* RAW Women’s Title match

* SmackDown Women’s Title match

* NXT Women’s Title match

* NXT UK Women’s Title match

* Bliss vs. Stratus
