Would You Agree That Wu Tang ISN'T The GOAT Group For This Reason?

They've probably dropped more duds than classics

Classics

1. 36 Chambers
2. Tical
3. Return of the 36 Chambers
4. Only Built For Cuban Linx
5. Liquid Swords
6. Ironman
7. Wu Tang Forever
8. Uncontrolled Substance
9. Supreme Clientele
10. The Pretty Toney Album/Fishscale

That's 10 Classics

If you just counted the first 10 albums I listed, you might think they're The GOATs. Those albums are certified classics. I could make a Double CD of their stuff from 93-97 and it would bang harder than anybody else from that era (even Pac and Big).

But if we're being honest with each other, those are the only 10 Wu Tang albums you need to hear. All of the individual members have a gang of solo albums but, and correct me if I'm wrong, their best work was from 93-97. They were on fire in the mid/late 90s. They even had a song on every soundtrack in that era. In my opinion, Ghostface has the best solo albums.

There's other groups like Tribe, The Roots, Gang Starr, NWA that have a better dope-to-nope ratio. Groups that might have less albums, but less duds.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that quality>quantity.

Does Wu Tang's duds take away from their greatness? I kinda feel like after 2000 they were like MJ on The Wizards.

Didn't read foh

You still haven't said what all the duds were.

It's not uncommon for a group to have a peak period where it's basically all back to back successes and then to have another period where things aren't as successful.

I think the groups I mentioned in the O/P have a better dope-to-nope ratio.

I agree that most groups fall off, in all genres of music. But I think Wu had about 5 years when they were on fire and were clearly one of the best groups in Hip Hop, if not the absolute best. But starting around 2000, besides Ghostface, I don't think any of them put out anything on par with those albums they dropped from 93-97.

It's actually strange how they could put out so many albums and, besides Ghostface, none of them could match up to what they were doing in the 90s.

I remember reading/hearing somewhere that they all had a problem with RZA. I guess he was the leader and they felt like he had too much control.

Seems like The Roots, Jay Z and Nas outlasted Wu Tang. Also, some groups released less material (e.g. Tribe & Gang Starr) so they have less duds.

Don't get me wrong, they're still in my top 5 groups, but they dropped a lot of duds since 2000.

Jay-Z and Nas are NOT groups. You are an idiot.

They're not the GOAT group for the simple fact you have to count solo albums as group albums.

Outta that entire list of classics, 2 are actual Wu-Tang albums.

I had acouple years ago Nas was in the Wu instead of Insoectah and had all his years

I f that was true Nas woulf be cobsider the goat by ecen more ppö
