Why should we wait to call an album Classic?

My style is impetuous.. My defense is impregnable
Listen some of you dummies fall in love in 2 weeks.
Get married after 6 months.

But we have to wait some random period of time to decide some shit is classic NONSENSE.

Now there should be an age limit on who should be able to call some shit classic
(If you are younger than 33 your are invalid.. yeah you could vote.. die for the country ate 18.. smoke cigs.. but dammit fuck your opinion on whats classic i dont trust you from the jump .. ).. or Maybe you have to have like 30 credits.

But in all seriousness there shouldn't be a reason why classic shit shouldn't be called classic because we didnt cross some imaginary time threshold

what say you?

Although I agree with your overall point of there not needing to be a set time to call an album a classic, I believe some on the other side of this argument will suggest that time is needed in order to see if....

-The album has replay value in 10 years

-If the album changes the game and creates a new trend in hip hop

I usually say 4 years is a good time to see how an album holds up. I can't call an album a "classic" after a few weeks.

Agreed i was ready to call Revival a classic but Offended, Framed and Chloraseptic stopped me.

But it's a near classic 9/10 album even though it's only been out a few weeks. And I call Believe, Arose, Castle, In Your Head, Tragic Endings masterpiece songs already

I do feel like some albums are instant classics, but those are super rare. For the most part, I think waiting atleast 5 years before stamping it as a classic is necessary.

I'm with you. Sometimes you just feel it in your soul. Amd we all interpret music differently. Depending on what we are going through personally for example.
What's the last album you heard that you knew instantly was a classic? For me it was Forest Hills Drive. Not brand new lol but I love it so ❤️
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy made me feel that way.

I get what yall are saying, but I'm sure there's albums yall look back at 5/10 years later and think "I actually liked this shit?" lol
nope cuz i dont really vibe with shit just cause its " poppin".. ie.. future...fettywap blah blah..

It took me years to really appreciate OB4CL and War Report. So I think giving albums a certain time to fester in the mind.
Look the Source be stingee with mics.

Like boom I'm a straight up Prodigy fan but I can't and will not say that everything he dropped was a classic. We gotta be real with our selves and not throw the word out like classic gingerly.

There's also a generational gap with some of us and we have different listening ears.

agreed which is why a lot of NL albums to me are personal classics. Some of them that i enjoyed in middle/high school just dont have the replay value to me as a 34 yr old father with a kid

NOW, i was listening to Big Tymers, "how you luv that vol 2" and that shit?!?! man...dont get me started lol. That jams

but to answer the question, instantly, i knew 4:44 was a classic album. It wasnt just a feeling of the moment. I find myself listening to other music and im like "damn, what did hov say"?.

other albums do have to have a waiting period imo
