now in adulthood, i dont watch disturbing movies/shows. tv is supposed to be an escape for me. not something that reflects the chaos within society.

i dont watch killer “shoot em up bang bang” movies because i can just turn on the news for that

i dont watch slave remakes because what i look like smacking on popcorn watching someone get whipped?

i dont watch mad depressing shit like Maid on netflix because why tf am I gleefully signing up to be sad and depressed?

I dont understand why people consume so much violence and negativity. I honestly think thats why our culture is fucked up as we speak

Now look Im not knocking anyones movie choices/preferences but have you ever watched something that disturbed you for days on end?

I mean honestly what do you get out of watching people die horrible, gory deaths in movies?

are you just enamored by horror?

just a general question.

No slave films, white revisionist history films and I try to avoid the white savior films if I see it coming.

Everything else is pretty much a go. But I'm mainly into sci fi and thrillers.

For me it's about the ability to suspend disbelief and immerse myself in the story.

Because it’s fun to watch violence, mayhem and people’s reactions to horror situations.

Everything except for trauma porn and slavery movies - that’s just Hollywood’s method of dramatizing our history for their commercialism. I do not watch those- it’s purposely done to manipulate our psyche. We are warriors but they always portray us as victims for their sick amusement. The movie “Them”, as an example- no purpose, no reason just pure torture porn for white consumption created by industry sell outs.

What happened to Ricky was made more of an impression to me than movies like the Predator, which was very violent. It was my first glimpse into to what was really going on in the world, wouldn't have got that lesson from anywhere else. I got to feel how other black youth in different cities, with different backgrounds experienced life.

where else can I watch somebody like John wick shoot and kill a bunch of people and essentially watch gun porn?

Movies and shows are nice forms of entertainment

Being a “badass” is cool so we watch people portray them

Everything has a time and place. I used to love them hostel and saw type movies when I was in hs. Not so much anymore. I can handle chaos and negativity just give me a decent story to go along with it.

.....because they're like car accidents you just cang look away. When there's an accide t scene on the highway theres always a long line of cars passing by slowly and observing. Its the same thing with disturbing tv

Your dad failed to drive home the lesson. If he really wanted to get his point across he would've grabbed you by the shoulders , looked you in the eye and asked" do you want to wind up like that boy doughboy Ricky and them found in the bushes?" No? Then stay away from sorry niggas like that! I want you to stay away from all them doughboys out there . you get you a nice young man thats about something like Tre'" I'm being silly though because honestly I can't fathom what kind of lesson he was trying to teach you from that movie.

I enjoy a good thriller movie and the occasional horrors. I know at least at the end of the day I know it’s fake.

what I really don’t get is people who watch snuff videos and torture videos from cartels and whatnot.

Entertainment... korean cinema does this the best i watch it all

The movie Bully is one of those joint that sit in your gut (American Movie)

I cant rock with the serial killer admiration that shit is weird

Speaking only for myself obviously, but I want to FEEL something, when it comes to movies and TV. Whether that's joy, pain, dread, worry, satisfaction, disgust, elation, pride, concern. Whatever. I feel like TV shows and movies are a reflection of the human experience. And just like I want to experience in real life a large swath of what this life as a human being has to offer, I also want my entertainment to reflect a large swath of what this life as a human being has to offer.
