good cameras were very expensive then and it was much cheaper to do portrait packages w your whole family..it also was less hassle than having to learn photography..bc most people don’t understand how to actually take pictures.
But once the technology reached our hands when smartphones became the Swiss Army knife of everything digital..it killed the photo industry. Probably part of the reason why Sears and Kmart collapsed eventually..
