That's not what I was doing. I literally said that the song itself was going to get hijacked and it did. The amount of brands and entities that tried to make it a wave and jump on it was corny.

It had a real Black Lives Matter energy to it with the way non-Black people were going up for it and I'm sorry but shit like that will always be corny too me.

:js4:

Don’t make me go pull the receipts from this encyclopedia ass thread. You definitely downplayed & acted like it wasn’t gonna be as big as it was.. so much so that you were hung up on curtain words like it was gonna delay the inevitable.

Either way the song was the number one song all year, I dunno what you expected.

NLU is as big as it is because the people who are NLU are keeping it alive.

The play Down 4 My Niggas at Alabama home games and you can't tell white people in Alabama that Down 4 My Niggas ain't their song.

Look at who NLU is appealing to. The people capitalizing on it are the ones who are NLU.

I think y'all are confusing my comments as me hating. I'm not hating. I'm just stating that at its core. NLU as a song was hijacked by non-Black people and the song itself gets celebrated and acknowledged not for the reasons it was made.

Ok, and? You making this bigger than it needs to be. It’s just a diss song at the end of the day.

Not everything needs a crusade my guy.

That's my point. Personally, I think for Black people it's just a diss song and I'm 100% not tripping on that.

I'm talking about how the song is perceived by non-Black people which is the whole premise of the song.

This is why I brought up Black Lives Matter as an example of how something gets culturally hijacked to the point where it's just corny.

I'm not saying NLU is a bad song. It's a great diss. I am saying that the premise of the song was hijacked to a point where it's not being associated for what it should. It's being used as a tool for flattery and imitation by non-Black people which is always going to be corny to me for music.

Chill out nigga. This ain't no big dialogue lolololololololololololololol

Lol, oh you are not gonna gaslight me Loseph.

:hahaha:

All non black people know who Drake is. I don’t think the message of the song is lost lol.

@Los216 This is what happens when a song or artist becomes popular... the mainstream audience will flock to it and blow it up to the point of parody. Remember when Outkast was every white person's favorite "rap band"? Or when white kids were tattooing Wu Tang symbols on their face? Snoop, Wayne, Kanye, etc... all those artists crossed over to white audiences that ended up becoming their main fanbase. There's a difference between the Harlem Shake trend overtaking the actual dance (try finding a video on YouTube without that stupid meme) and an artist making it to the highest platform they can. A lot of us on here been waiting on this moment since Overly Dedicated. I personally hate that it had to come off the strength of this teen soap opera ass "beef", but I'm happy to see K Dot get his flowers... and while NLU is no longer a record for ONLY us, it's still one of the hardest diss songs, possibly songs period in decades.

I kinda get what he's saying though. Corny people turned how much you love NLU into a "how Black are you" competition and non Black folks took it as an anthem as well.

Best example is swag surf is now white water rafting

That's all I'm saying. I just think the song got hijacked a little too fast actually. It wasn't even a few days old and you had politicians and corporate sponsors who were mocking the song by using it as some cool Black measuring stick.

I just....................as a Black person and someone who knows Hip Hop/Rap culture, I will never be cool with the people who are the premise of the song flipping it and co-opting it into a mockery of not only Hip Hop but Black culture in general. That's wild as fuck too me.

Swag Surf is a great example but it's still just a party song so while I still think that it's corny how it has also been hijacked (Falcons games lol) it's not that deep.

hearing Down 4 My Niggas at every Alabama game with a team full of Black players in a racist red state before players were even getting paid made me not wanna play the song at all.

Not Like Us doesn't even mean what it was supposed to mean anymore because "They" hijacked it and put their foot down on the gas with the mockery which sucks because Kendrick is what most people see as the perfect representation of Hip Hop and Rap in general.

HBO MAX mocking Drake and co-opting NLU after they cut almost all of their Black content is the type of shit I'm taking about.
