According to research, this approach of preventative measures to reduce youth crime is actually counterproductive.

“Kids know how hit and miss the criminal justice system is. They believe they might not get caught when they think about committing a crime. What young people react to is: (1) How swift is the punishment in terms of the behavior? (2) How certain is it that a consequence will occur? and (3) How severe is the punishment? The extreme nature of the punishment shown in “scared straight” programs doesn’t match the expectations of young people. They don’t picture themselves locked up.

“Scared straight programs are developed by adults for kids, but kids don’t react the same way as adults,”

Well some of these kids where dickheads and some where a product of there environment taking them to jail them dropping them back off in same shitty environment, back with more than likely there weakass parent(s) (some kids just ain’t shit no matter what)

All I know is this scene was hilarious

And there was another scene dude was making a kid peel his orange or something and then another a guy was locked up and kept trying to grab a kids feet from under the door

I remember that scene and the Black kid didn't acquiesce.

But I did notice those inmates hype each other up to do that.

But a lot of this was for TV, it was like a staged reality show and a lot of the times those kids stayed the same.

Since that was a documentary I can see it being more effective bc the content wasn't around.

After while it became entertaining then educating. What more could the inmates do

Exactly.

It was a documentary based on an actual social initiative that was designed to keep kids from going down the wrong path.

Was never meant to be a tv show.

Once ratings, advertisers, and money get thrown in the mix.....it lost it's authenticity.

Like a lot of initiatives, it had good intentions until white people managed to exploit it at the expense of Black people. It's fucked up that no one participating in the show got any compensation or residuals.

It would never work.

#1 when ever it takes an outside person to command respect for your child.. You already lost control of the situation. They know you can't control them, and the person you went to can't be there the entire time cuz they're too far from the situation. Do unless them jail niggaz move in with you, you'll never get that kinda respect.... Or fear outta that child.

#2 you have to teach children accountability, or they will flip everything you do. Most kids you put thru shit like that are age appropriate to process that as you let that convict violate their space. You don't care to protect them, and they're the victim in all that. Children have to be carefully taught shit to understand it. That's not a careful touch. Trying to shock scare them into obedience will almost always fail.

#3 legally, they can't go hard enough. What scares real people in jail ain't simple yelling and intimation over a few minutes. It's days off beating and abuse, and the slow understanding that nobody will help you. You really gotta do that time and stay in that fucked up place. You really can't go no where. There's really nobody to protect you but you. That shit slowly breaks niggaz down. No way you can accomplish that in a controlled setting with semi responsible adults around who ain't bout to let someone's kids get really fucked up on camera

Funny show though
