Here's why Eminem didn't run Hip Hop in 2000:
Eminem's music wasn't Hip Hop, it was Pop.
Compare The Real Slim Shady to this;
^^^ Those songs are what I would consider "Hip Hop". They have a certain feel/vibe to them that is uniquely Hip Hop. Eminem's album might be technically a "rap album" but there's not one song on that album that is "Hip Hop" in the same manner that MC Hammer or Vanilla Ice sold a lot of records, but Hip Hop purists dismissed them as pop, not Hip Hop.
It would be like saying MC Hammer ran Hip Hop in 1990.
I remember in 2000 I was unemployed and I spent hours on the Davy D message board arguing with Eminem stans. My position was that Eminem is talented at rapping, but his music isn't Hip Hop.
