When did rappers stop shouting out the year on record?

Yeah rappers realised it dated their music after 2000 but we still listen to the classics, so not sure thats the sole reason...

Also after 2000 it sounded awkward, wait until 2025 though, it sounds better 'We live in '25' lol


edit: I think part it felt like as we were heading to the Millennium, each new year was all about being closer to the future, then once we got there is well like... OK next...

Folks misunderstood what I was saying. It doesn't hurt the song at all. I just meant it takes you back to a specific era. Maybe dated was the wrong word.

It was an iconic line in hiphop at the time because Cashmoney was going through the start of their legendary run.. Growing up I copped every CMR album ever released bad or good.
