What's Crossing The Line When Reporting News?

This is something I've been conflicted with and trying to figure out since starting the site. My job is to report the news but there's been events that has taken place that left me debating myself on if I should post it on the front page or not.

So for example, in Nipsey's thread people were rightfully bothered by the videos of his murder and even Lauren London walking inside the hospital. My question is, as a platform that reports on the news what's the line on what should be posted when there's information and videos available?

If it pulls at your moral compass or makes you question your integrity be very thoughtful about your decision about whether to post it. If you post things but feel like shit about what you put out there, were the clicks worth it? That's the question.

Lauren london in the hospital was fucked up but the video was titled as such.

People have the choice to not watch the shit at all instead of trying to get the videos banned.

Them shits gon come out. The multiple angles of the shooting and all that. People were even watching them on other sites but didn't want them posted in the threads..wtf type of sense does that make?!

Since you are reporting news... as your platform and audience grows so does your responsibility to ensure that the information you put out there is truthful and legit.. That being said, when it comes posting/reposting videos of people being killed... personally I think it's in bad taste.. but me as a consumer of content.. I can chose whether or not I view/consume that content.

End of the day it falls on what sits right with you and your conscience @Goldie . The folks that want to see it are gonna see it one way or the other. The folks that don't want to see.. will avoid it

Fam real talk follow your personal moral compass and you'll get further than if you posted everything from everywhere.

If you ever feel conflicted dont post that shit.

Especially on a forum like this. Theres people thats gonna be racing to post the shit before they even see it just too be the first ones to post it so you get to not step over your personal moral compass and still have it posted on your site.

If your goal is to inform, thats one thing...if its to sensationalize, thats another which is why I try to make sure that there are no titles of threads that give off click bait vibes

This site is growing, and will soon become a place where people might come for news and hopefully stay for conversation, but just look at how ol girl had her people contact you about removing her pics that were already posted online. The site will start to garner attention from people who had no idea it even existed before. You will now be on their radar moving forward, so it's probably best to just be cautious.

If you feel you must post something, I would suggest a link, and let the person click and go to another outlet, but don't be a hub for the info here.

Admittedly, i saw that first grainy ass TMZ clip and Im glad I couldnt make anything out. After that, I made the decision to not look at any other clips online about him or LL. Even in my group texts, i told the group, im not watching it

just my .02

Tbh.... Reporting is a dirty business.

You have to define your personal code and stick by it..... Or else you'll be compensating your integrity for the story every time.

The reality is someone is going to break every story. You just have to know how far your"re willing to go to be that guy

and while that's very respectable.. a lotta people wanna see that sit, and as a journalist, you have to make a decision on what demographic you want, and how you want your viewers to feel about your reporting..

unfrtubaltey once you entr the realm of customer service, you do have to care what people think about you, and that's a hard compromise for some people who typically move without concern of ridicule..
