I hate to say it, but this was the only positive father figure I had a s kid. Didn't even realize it til I got older. Fish will always be Furious though I love Hoodlum and his Deep Cover role. Liked him in that movie (can't remember the name) where he was a villain and allowed himself to get tortured to execute his plan for escape.

Best role: Furius Styles

Signature Role: Morpheus

Personal favorite as far as best role. Playing the strong no nonesense father of a young black male. I think it was super realistic as well...from the scene when he cutting Treys hair and trey is telling (lying) about smashing and he smacks him when trey told him he wasnt using protection. And the convo after...it was some real ass shit...

And the scene after ricky died....

As far as morpheus thats his most iconic role for obvious reasons...for the avg (white) person the first thing they think of when it comes to Fish is The Matrix.

Furious the reason me and my dad ain't getb along...

When he was living by himself, I ain't see no reason why we couldn't have a relationship like furious and Tre

I ain't even want to live there, .Just hang out with the nigga and soak up wisdom...

Dude just was too selfish for all that

Yeah bruh.... Niggaz needed that voice....

This is the perfect example of my argument from last year...

Niggaz was saying they was tired of the same negative black portrayal in movies...

And I'm like shit.... We need MORE furious Styles in movies than any other kind of black chatachar

For me its a tie between furious styles and bumpy johnson, glad hes gettin some love for hoodlum here that movie is very underrated, one of my fav gangster movies

Morpheus now is another very complex character and very distinctive. Here's a man who bears the weight of human kind on his shoulders in his quest to locate "The One". He believed it so much he didn't care for what the Oracle had to say to Neo and he was willing to die for it. Laurence had to become the personification of belief and literally walking entirely by faith. What's beautiful is that he has his faith shattered when Neo completes his mission with the keymaker but then the war doesn't end and still Morpheus must then stake his entire belief in a man who has to go on a suicide mission with Trinity to save the very same civilization he was entrusted to save and he doesn't even go with them. From the emotions, to the action to the look of the character, I cannot imagine any other actor in Hollywood who could have played Morpheus. What's crazy is Morpheus' intelligence, the character is supposed to be a guide for Neo and almost all-knowing in that Neo has to be able to ask him questions and hope he has the answers and at times Morpheus honestly yet confidently says when he is unsure but that unwavering faith he always falls back on.

We don't even know what his religion is or what he truly believes outside of the prophecy he holds dear. He's very interesting in how multifaceted he is. We know very little about his past other than his relationship with Naomi. Good characters I think are the ones who have a degree of detachment and mystery to where the audience creates more than there is. This is why I feel the many characters Johnny Depp or Gary Oldman play are so beloved.

Apparently Russell Crowe turned down Morpheus to do Gladiator. There was also rumors that Sean Connery and Samuel L. Jackson were considered before Fishburne got it
