The funniest shit about that is that was part of Coldplay's performance that people barely remember cuz of Beyonce and Bruno Mars. His solo performance was dope as hell too

They started doing them the year after In Living Color had their halftime special show. The ratings were crazy and the NFL decided to have MJ perform the next year to take those ratings back.

To add, they started backlash against In Living Color for suggesting Joe Montana was gay during that episode’s Men on Film skit.
