I would agree, but the movies are geared towards the adults who grew up reading comic books. So while it may have started with children, the comics of today are for adults now seeing their childhood fantasies finally realized in film. Technically, comics are an expansion of the funny pages in newspapers of the early 19th century. They were intended for adults. Oftentimes they were very racist.
