Social media we have today has it's roots in BlackPlanet, Migente, and AsianAvenue. Everything about it: Personalized pages where you post whatever you want, friends lists, likes, groups... alladat. And wasn't nothing about any of those sites for kids. That was the framework, Friendster, Myspace, and FB copied it and did their own thing with it.

There was a lot more than kid videos in those early days. The first video with over a million hits was a Nike ad barely 6 months after it launched and music videos were being uploaded left and right.
