Back then you bought and listened to everybody just off the strength of your love for hip hop. You had time to listen and judge an album for what it was. Nowdays 5011 albums and mixtapes drop every other day. It's kinda hard to keep up. I'm prolly missing out on some solid projects and I'm also wasting time on a lot of garbage too.
Up until 1988 it was possible to buy every rap album as they came out. Meaning; a good Rap album might come out every other month. Singles were more common. The summer of 87 had Paid In Full, Bigger and Deffer and Criminal Minded. Also Public Enemy and Dana Dane had albums. But the summer of 88 had so many albums that you could barely keep up.
I used to tape the college radio shows and they'd play the best songs from every album in the O/P.
