What Do You All Think About Trades?

SirReginald

Black Jew. Baruch Adonai
I'm trying to get into the shipyard for sheet metal and after five years get my Trades Technician Associates Degree (take up Welding and Electronics Technician). How do you all feel about apprenticeship trades? Do you think they are good for the Black community? After 20 years I thought about starting my own business. Before then though I may go for a Web Development Specialist degree.

Would you push your child or family members to get into a trade?

Not sure about push them.

i would highly recommend getting a trade or learning a skill.

and why wait20yrs to start a business?

once sliced my pinky open in sheet metal class.

I basically want to stay on board at my job until retirement. May start a business before that though. However, I just want to be patient and take my time.

I have gotten a few youngsters their Twic Cards and gotten them into apprenticeship programs at shipyards in Mississippi. It's a trade that is needed, pays a decent living, benefits, and doesn't require you to be the brightest bulb.

The contracts these shipyards get from military and other places are very lucrative. I do wish there were Black owned shipyards, but they have/were sabotaged

You can do both. I would recommend investing more time into controlling your own direction and learning about investments and finances since owning your own can be spotty.
True. However, it will be little stressful managing two to three different businesses while working at the shipyard. I do have plans to invest into stocks and crypto though.

We have a stock and crypto thread and people are making nice money and giving tips.

as for work and owning a business....the stress should not be on building for yourself. That should be what makes the day job easier because you have a plan to not get comfortable with unloyal companies .

always remember...your hard work is giving someone else financial freedom.

Im going to be going into a welding school here in a few months hopefully. Just a quick 10 week Program to start out with. Trades are definitely overlooked though. Something that is always going to be needed and the way they make it sound, not a whole lot of people are pursuing them.

Do it bro if you ok with the work the labor aspect. I live in a shipyard area and trades can negotiate so much once they get to that point.
