What Do/Did Your Parents Do?

Dad is a carpenter. Been doing it so long when one company slows down n stops having work he jumps ship to another. As far as i know hes never been unemployed for a total of 6+ months while ive been alive.

Mom was in retail started part time young adult at sears worked up to store manager after many years. She was part of first few waves of layoffs years before eventual company bankruptcy. Got replaced by someone who was getting half her salary.

At one point she was the bread winner but remember having to drive 1 hr to pick her up from work just for her to sleep at home for literally 3-4 hrs n have me drive her back. Her getting laid off probably saved her life cuz that shit was killin her.

I definitely picked up on that work ethic.

Moms was a teacher for 40 sumn yrs, retired last year (wanted to be a nun at 1st when she was a kid cuz she went to a catholic school & figured teacher would be the next best thing)

Pops worked in the accountant department at a hospital, eventually opened his own businesses

I currently work for pops

Who said I got 4 felonies? cuz it wasn't me lol

Mom worked a ton of different jobs when I was a kid. Right now shes a medical coder working from home for some hospitals in Oregon and Washington and Anchorage.

Step dad been working at this oil/fuel company up here since my mom met him. Hes currently the manager of sales. Used to be a salesman though.

Neither effected my choice of career. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do tbh. Been with this company for 10 years almost. 5 different jobs. 4 different departments. Longer I work there the more I realize the office life ain't for me.

Buddy might get me in with a plumbing job which isnt something I'm passionate about, but I figured it would be a good change as I would move around a lot more and learn a good skill that I can bring anywhere I want to live as plumbing will always be needed. I would take a big pay decrease and lose a lot of benefits, but there is potential to move up fast in that line of work then I could use that to pay for school for something I would be passionate about.

Also considering going to welding school

My mama is a lawyer and owns a barbershop. My dad was all sorts of shit. He did construction for a long ass time, then some other shit idk what it was. Then some other shit, he wore boots. He ain’t never NOT had a job. Now he’s a garbage man manager. My step dad is a police officer.

They didn’t inspire shit. I hate working!!!!.

What did/do your parents do for a living? How did they bring home the bacon and did their vocation influence your career choice?

Pops a machinist
Moms a data clerk

Their vocation didnt inspire me to be; but them getting up every day to provide does make me wanna have oppose to have not!
Lifetime moment- i am thankful for everything they instilled
