What Do/Did Your Parents Do?

OhMars

MEH!
What did/do your parents do for a living? How did they bring home the bacon and did their vocation influence your career choice?

My mama is a lawyer and owns a barbershop. My dad was all sorts of shit. He did construction for a long ass time, then some other shit idk what it was. Then some other shit, he wore boots. He ain’t never NOT had a job. Now he’s a garbage man manager. My step dad is a police officer.

They didn’t inspire shit. I hate working.

Moms worked at MBNA, which at the time was the largest credit card bank in the US. They based their HQ in Wilmington, and she was one of the first 400 employees. She stayed there for 28 years, till they sold it to Bank of America. Since then, she's been working at some other bank in credit fraud investigations. She also owns a small wedding planner business on the side.

Pops did the grunt work; a warehousing supervisor at Boeing, then a housekeeping supervisor at the VA Hospital, and he opened his own barbershop. I'm glad he finally retired for the hospital, so he can cut hair in the shop (which he built in the garage of the house I grew up in).

They never really taught us anything directly, but from them my siblings and I learned to HUSTLE out here, no matter how bad it got. I guess that work ethic rubbed off on all of us.

My mom is a psychologist who specializes in senior care.

My pops is a prison psychiatrist as well as working a few hospitals when needed.

They both instilled a solid work ethic in me but I wish they'd taught me more about handling finances instead of always saying it was 'grown folks bidness'

I do customer service right now but once I finish my degree my mother and I plan on opening a counseling clinic together.
