What can FBAs learn from the Somalis in MN?

If you hired a black person, and on day one, let's make it more fresh, during the interviewing process, they told you that they wanted to open an ice cream shop, they found an abandon building and they asked you, how could they obtain funding, by your logic, you would want them to be friends with you? before you give them some options?

I'll tell you what I would do, try going to X. bank, make sure you have your credit score, have you gotten clearance on the building etc and tell the person, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask me or call me...and then I will hire the man

That's what I'll do and all this would be done in the interviewing process. You build relationships like that...imo

This. I honestly don't understand why this is even a debate.

Learning over time, yes

Within the first 2 pay periods, no

You won't give me the information within the 1st month but if I come to you in month 2, you'll share?

What's the point of having me wait to receive the same information that you could have given me sooner? I can still become a rival?

I will still do the same thing that I would have done if you have given me the information to the bank on Day 1 vs Day 90, now I'm questioning you as a person, if you have me waiting that long just to tell me to try Chase, HomeBank, USBank etc to get funding.

I just don't see your POV on this and maybe it's not for me to get. I won't sit on gold, especially if i can help someone else

No one said you shouldn't build a relationship with people. I'm saying you shouldn't need that relationship to ask a question about financers that are friendly to black people. If we're community, that should be information that's freely shared with everyone within the community. I don't know what's hard to understand about this.

In MD, we have issues with appraisers that were lowballing values for black owned homes. When we sold our house we got pointers on how to avoid that. Nobody had to build a relationship with me for me to share that info. Whenever, a black person told me they were trying to sell a house, I just put them on.

You're literally describing what I'm saying as a positive...then saying you disagree with it. For this individual situation, based on the information she provided, she seems to have skipped a step. As her self professed position of interning...part of that process is to learn whatever business model you want to emulate. Not just assume it's gonna be given to you.

No. I would make sure they had all their shit in order before sending them off to go get whatever financing they need. Help them learn how to actually not only get the financing but maintain it as well. Aka...work with them and then make sure they're adequately prepared to do what they want. Thats also how you build a relationship. Working with people and learning.

You literally just said the exact thing I said, and I said I would tell them all of this in the "interview" when they asked me.

When would you do all of this? in the "interview" like me or would you wait before telling these things as you suggested in your other posts?

They asked you the question during the interview... Let me add this again. Are you giving this information in the interview when they've asked?

This ain't no "hey man, it's my first day, can you tell me where the nice spots to get lunch at"

If a black young man or lady sat down with you after you've interviewed them and told you that he or she found a building and they would like to do something with it, they would like to know where to get funding.

How are you approaching their question to you?

Well for one that wouldn't be a smart thing to say if you're being interviewed for a job. But entertaining that unrealistic scenario...if that person is hired then thats when they'd get the information and make sure their job is tailored so they can get that information fed to them.

Day 1, folks are in your business, bosses are getting to know their people during the interviewing process or on Day 1, things can be shared.

So no, this isn't far-fetched, what are some of the things you like to do outside of work is a 1st day question or interview question.

Any goals, anything you're working on etc etc. Folks like to pry into people lives. Folks talk. This isn't 2004.

But your answer still seems shaky.

Information given on Day 1, to strangers, is something black folks used to do and most still do to help out the next black man

I'm said like 10 times now, based on the clip provided, there was no skipped step. That's just some shit you're making up. She says pretty clear that she's run into the problem of getting financing. She noticed that the Somalis were able to get financing. And she asked them for the sauce (i.e., the trick to getting financing). That has nothing to do with learning the business model or trying to get game or any other goofy shit you're accusing her of. It's a simple question and has a simple answer.

Is it possible she was asking for more than that? Yes, but what's the point of assuming that she was asking for more and then claiming she's leaving parts out when you can just accept what she actually said which is that she wanted advice on obtaining financing. That's all I got to say about this. If you want to continue to misrepresent what she said all so you can tear her down in defense of some Somalis who very likely could care less about natural born African American, knock yourself out.

Why stop here then?

Just start telling niggas how much you make a year when you first meet them. Or tell em the pin to your debit card cause they are black.

Give em your social security number instead of your phone number.

You're trolling hard now, how I know, you didn't answered my questions, only to come back with more crazy wording

Yes that is true. But in an interview if you make it clear your intentions aren't to stay with the company long term then hurts your chances. Hence why saying that during the interview wouldn't be smart because there's a chance that's the impression it would give. Now after being hired is different

Yeah the bold is completely your own projections and imagination at work. There's nothing in any post I made tearing her down, speaking down on her or saying anything negative about her. If you got that saying that you should work somewhere for a bit to learn the ins and outs you're seeking as tearing somebody down then you got a messed up understanding. If you're going to misrepresent and flat out lie about what I'm actually saying then you're right. No point in continuing.

Nah, you're over doing it. Contrarian, being that, just for the sake of being that, we left that in 2025
Maybe contrarian means something different in the dictionary you're using cause I haven't been anything close to contrary on this topic
