Layaway you're paying the proper price for whatever the merch is. Rent-A-Center and 'nem be overcharging like crazy. If the shit costs $300 at Sears or whatever, it's gonna cost you $1200-$1500 by the time you get done paying for it at RAC.

Yeah, but the difference is that with layaway you don't actually get to use the product. With RAC you do. You're double paying for the product, but I don't know that I would call that a scam. If people can't afford to pay for something outright and are going to have to rent anyway, it's probably better to do it in a way where they can eventually own the product as oppose to just throwing away money on something that will never be theirs.
At this point, the American political system is the biggest scam of all. As it is now, it will never benefit the general populace no matter how much we're told it will.
