Na but for real, the idea that servers should get tipped based on the bill is wack. I can understand large parties whrew the bill is high because of the amount of people at a table. That requires more work and attention to detail. They deserve a better too. But when the bill is high just because two people are riding expensive items off the menu doesn't increase the workload for the sever. The back of the house folks still get paid the same wage.....

you guys are ignorant to the levels of the service game.....

all underestimate the skills required to be a great server...

it so much more than just bringing shit out and back.....

when you have a GREAT server.....the difference is clear as fuck....

it's like the difference between a guy who's selling used cars, and a guy who sells billion dollar contracts.....

the skill level is just much higher.....

good service deserves its rewards....and if your waiter or server is good, you tip them accordingly....cuz it's hard work being nice to people who already got it fixed in their minds they don't have to pay you shit....

So if the server at Applebees brings my 2 for $20 super quick, gets my happy hour drink extra strong, is super attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, they deserve like a $50 tip?

They put the same effort in and gave the same level of service as the 5 star restaurant, but my bill came out to $30. According to your logic there service denotes a $50+ tip

I believe you should tip based on percentage. For some reason American waiters ain't paid real money and gotta rely on tips.

A lot of what you stated has nothing to do with my waiter. Should I go in the back and hand out $20 to the cook?
Servers usually take money out of their own tips at the end of the night and give it to cooks and the bussers who cleaned their tables if they have that. Good ones do anyway. I did. Most of my coworkers did as well.

exactly....

i've been working at bars and restaurants since i was like 19 (this is du, not lady du) good servers tip everybody....

i even got tipped as a bouncer for throwing out rowdy ppl before

Honestly what people seem to forget is that most people working whether it be in a bar, club, restaurant any type of food served establishment, people who work in these types of jobs don't work for the pay cause it's shit "TIPS IS THE REAL PAY"
Our pay checks is for gas and little simple stuff.
You're right you don't have to tip but one thing I can say about that is I used to bartend in a nightclub.
Well I had this tipper where he sometimes would order just one beer @3 dollars and he paid with a 20 and guess who gets to always keep the change?
Muah yes and let me remind yu I was the bartender not the waitress.
This bartender tho went out of her way came out from behind the bar just to take care of this wonderful customer.
So like if he wasn't so good to me I wouldn't come out from behind that bar to take care of him he would have to wait at the end of the line about 20 people back.
Just hope yu see the difference and I'm not saying it should always be a huge tip but you better believe we know who to take care of and who not to give two thoughts about...
Unless you've worked in the food industry you have no clue...

Man there was a short order cook at this deli I used to get breakfasts from everyday....

Sweet old black lady.... I'm sure they paid her well.... But she still kept her tip cup there....

I'd always throw my loose change in there,, just cuz she was a sweetheart.

She was always nice, funny, and made my sammichez to perfection. Best bacon egg and cheese sandwich ever in my entire life.

Sometimes if I had dough like that,, I might even put in a dollar or two....

One day I'm bout to walk in when I realize the line is out the door.....

The red Sox were in town.... And they love hitting local spots off of word of mouth.... Shane's was a beast ass deli....

Why soon as ole girl saw me... She yelled out "D don't even stand in line baby! I got you!"

I was like o iight.... whatever...

Bruh she brought me out two of the fattest most delicious bacon egg and cheese sandwiches of all time..... She even got my juice... Her treat..... It was only 10am and she said she already made like $1,000 in tips....

Again.... Shane's knew shorty was a master short order cook.... They prolly paid her well, she was there for like 30 years, and most of their rep was built off her.... so for her to stay,, and never go no where better..... They'd had to be taking Care of her....

But them tips is where she caked....

Even though she might have been a $1,000 a day level cook..... No small ass deli paying like that....

But she made it in tips all baseball and football season long.....

My point is..... There's no ceiling on tips.... And the greats always get their due

Holy shit, I'm going to use that as a character description
