The United States is pressuring the interim Venezuelan government to expel official advisers from China, Russia, Cuba and Iran, American officials said.

Marco Rubio, the secretary of state, listed the Trump administration’s demands to Venezuela’s new leader, Delcy Rodríguez, in a classified meeting on Monday with senior congressional leaders. The U.S. officials, who were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, said that spies and military personnel from Cuba, Russia, China and Iran would be forced out, while some diplomats would be permitted to stay in Venezuela.

Army Delta Force commandos engaged in an intense firefight on Saturday with the Cuban security forces that had protected the ousted leader, Nicolás Maduro, outside his compound in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital. Mr. Maduro used the Cuban forces as bodyguards instead of his own military because he perceived them as more trustworthy.

I do not like China's gov, but the U.S has the worst gov right now. I care about paying bills, healthcare, human rights, affordable prices, cost of living, mental health and a good economy. You know the shit that actually matters. None of this has addressed any issues in our country and capitalists like the orange sack of shit has been the only ones who profited. You MAGA dickriders on this site do not even know why you voted for the orange goblin. I hope yall join him in ell fuck it.
 
The energy secretary, Chris Wright, said on Wednesday that the United States intended to maintain significant control over Venezuela’s oil industry, including by overseeing the sale of the country’s production “indefinitely.”

“Going forward we will sell the production that comes out of Venezuela into the marketplace,” Mr. Wright said at a Goldman Sachs energy conference near Miami.

Mr. Wright’s remarks came after President Trump said late Tuesday that Venezuela would soon hand over tens of millions of barrels of oil to the United States.

What is the history is this situation? What's the backstory to all of this?

I know folks wanna believe that Trump roll over out of bed and decided to do this.... It's a backstory that's not being told to folks..I

I don't recall Venezuela having the oil companies to even do any drilling for their own oil.... Did the country have any outside investors from Trumps camp or America? And some kind of deal fell through....

I know folks are emo, but I like to dive into history and the origin of things and see why folks do things for a reason....

No need to be sad about it. China has its problems for sure. It's not angelic, but I think its safe to say that gained the high ground on us. Or more accurately they maintained their own ground and let us sink below them.

Basically at one point in history, I think about 30 years ago, US oil companies had contracts and infrastructure to extract oil from Venezuela. Then Venezuela said get the fuck out.

Now Trump is a pay for play type president so the oil companies said hey, get us back into Venezuela since they have the largest oil reserve in the world.

Trump said bet. Started the narco-terrorist narrative as a basis for targeting Venezuela. And now openly admits it was for the oil.

Yes Maduro was bad and it was good to get him out, but the only people that will benefit from this are the oil companies and Trump and his cronies. Definitely not the people of Venezuela and definitely not us as US citizens.

You would think “hey, more oil (supply), lower prices”. But that shit will be all profit taking and no lower prices.
