Jaz needs this more than Gattas

she tried to play big w Ms Fit and got embarrassed unless they force some rematches on us wasn’t really no one for her to battle

I'm paying with valuable time. Plus this is a Drake sponsored URL event. Almost every time a celebrity gets involved with URL the culture gets set back a cpl years.
This is the first time URL collab’d with a celeb on a card though. Total Slaughter wasn’t an URL card.

I meant the Cassidy battles, the first Caffeine card which was a disaster (URL, Drake and Caffeine have some relationship I'm not fully hip to), the weird ass environment of SM2 (classic event, but fuckery was clearly afoot), SM7 where Mayweather was in the building, and the BET tournament. There's more I'm sure I'm forgetting, but for the most part URL be on some hokey shit when a celebrity shows up.

There has been celebs at nearly every big Smack events. I don’t what understand how celebs in the building has to do with anything setting the culture back « cpl years ». Ultimately, battlers control the outcome of what’s going on.

Sounds like you're describing sellout vibes. You do have a point there. There are always gonna be attempts to expand battle rap and what it means. It just seems really hard to do without compromising the integrity of it. Total Slaught was the perfect case of too much too soon. Shit looked like 106 and Park, didn't know how to handle streaming, the corny reality show, etc.

These external entities don't care about the culture, they just want in on the profits. The problem isn't the celebrities themselves, it's when the "culture" gives too much control to these outsiders for the sake of the dollar. THEY call the shots. THEY pull the strings. Then the shit comes out looking goofy as fuck, then it's back to the drawing board until some other "investor" starts watching.

Unneeded pressure leading to (newer) battlers underperforming, especially if that celebrity appearance adds to the hype of that card. I don't know if you remember how big a deal they made of Mayweather being at SM7, or Drake sponsoring that first Caffeine event. They put NJT on a frickin billboard, and he shit the bed. Him, Rex and Surf are on this card, and Surf already looks flustered from that faceoff. As per the setting the culture back thing... look at those names. 3 of the most important names in battle rap, and plenty of times they dropped the ball in big events. They set the standard for not showing up and making excuses... so my faith is a little low in them delivering at a Drake event.

Bingo... battle rap got too spoiled, and basically goes into default mode under corporate entities. And the celebrities can't do much but sit back and watch the shitshow.

Ok i understand what you mean now BUT I still think it falls on the battlers. If they can’t handle the pressure of those big lights, it’s problematic. Twork, as you mentioned, fought Norbes the day before. He probably would have messed up even without that. He’s messed up even in smaller settings. Same as Surf. Same as Rex of late. These niggas not as reliable lol
