My point is don’t rely on their permission or helpThis ain't about permission. It's about something that was previously established being taken away and now they have to find another way to hold the event without that resource. It literally said the organizers were looking for a way to still have the event
Edit: I see you included help. So you’d rather black students and families come out of pocket instead of an institution providing those resources? The institution they’ve paid 10’s of thousands of dollars to attend and at minimum has put in hours upon hours earning their scholarships? My point is don’t rely on their permission or help
It’s a pretty straightforward stance and one yall should get behind
The school don’t like black people.Edit: I see you included help. So you’d rather black students and families come out of pocket instead of an institution providing those resources? All because Trump doesn’t like DEI (black people).
So you bypassed a superior education for some black T&A?
And why do y’all keep saying go to a HBCU, as if there’s one nearly as comparable to Harvard? You going to trade out 4 years of superior education for a one day event?
It’s disturbing y’all see no issue with cutting a tradition specifically for and by black people that attend Harvard. Do y’all just not like Harvard and have a natural disdain for people that go there?
Nobody on Harvard’s dick. Just stating objective facts in general, personal preferences aside. So miss me with your ill informed assumption. With all due respect, get off Harvard's dick. It's a good school but it's not going to make you it break you.
FAMU gave me a computer, a full scholarship, and put me in an apartment instead of a dorm. And yes, being around a bunch of black people all working towards something positive made it a better choice than Harvard for me. Everybody has to choose what's best for them. I don't bash anyone for going to PWIs. I went to one for grad school, but you're not automatically going to be better off just because you go to an Ivy League school.

Sounds to me like you and @Dwayne got some sort of issue with Harvard. And that’s fine because it does have its issues, but you can’t ignore it’s reputation as an educational institution.
My main point is you are apathetic to black students being denied a resource they’ve always enjoyed. I’m against anything that’s taken away from us if it’s something we wanted.
Misunderstanding then, because I never said people should feel obligated to go to Harvard either. I just said Harvard has the better academics based on their results and reputation.lol I don't even know what you're talking about. I haven't said anything bad about Harvard at all. All I said is that I don't believe universities have to or even should sponsor graduations for a single race. Then I said if people are gung ho on have an all-black experience, they can go to an HBCU. I'm not sure where you got that I have a problem with Harvard. Yes, I chose not to go there, but it wasn't because it was a bad school. There were other factors at play.
My issue with you is making it seem like people should feel obligated to go to Harvard if they are able. I don't agree with that. Yes, Harvard has a great reputation, but you don't need it to be successful. You're better of going to a school where you will be comfortable and can thrive than going to a school you might hate just because it has a big name.

We’ve lost the point though arguing Harvard. Main point is something getting taken away from black people because Trump is extorting colleges with federal penalties.
More to your point, yes black students shouldn’t depend on Harvard for a black only graduation, but if Harvard is willing to give them that it’s a plus. I hope you’re not against a black only graduation at Harvard.
Like I said, I'm not against it. I just don't think it's necessary. What's the point? I'm sure Harvard has a black student union. If they want to do something for the graduating class every year, that's fine. But why should the institution as a whole be sponsoring Black or Asian or Hispanic only graduations. That shit is backwards. Segregation been gone for 60 years now.
Affinity graduations are optional events typically led by students to celebrate different student identities and ethnicities. Commonly held ceremonies often honor Black, Hispanic, Asian, first-generation and LGBTQ+ students. Students say the events are significant because they honor the music, apparel, food, history, language and traditions unique to their identity.
“Following a number of federal and state policy changes and directives, the university will no longer host identity-based or special-interest graduation celebrations,” university spokesperson Jay Blanton said in a statement. “In the past, these were held outside of our official commencement ceremonies as optional celebrations and social events. We will continue to comply with the law, while celebrating all students and their distinctive achievements at our official commencement ceremonies.”
Again... Whats the issue?

I could be mistaken but I thought that's what they were doing the whole time but they were previously able to do it on the schools property. which now they cant.. so they have to find venues, additional funding etc.I don't have an issue with it. Have the student unions take over those ceremonies and celebrations. I'm sure there is even a way those unions can get funds from the school for the celebrations without Trump and his goons finding out.
