COMMUNITY United States Politics Thread: Trump's Second Term

In other news. Trump was about to give half a trillion bucks to big tech for AI. China came thru and crushed the bldg and now college students have put the nail in the coffin

Kamala is as status quo as it gets. She said she wouldn't do much diff than Biden 🤢

Biden did vax mandates, Trump is for state government dictating women's right to choose birth. Both attack bodily autonomy.

Biden administration pressured media outlets and platforms to censor and were successful multiple times. Looks like Trump wants what Biden has and prob gonna try and take it a step farther. Both are pro censorship.

Obama, after running on ending wars and bringing troops home, was a continuation of "the war on terror" and expanded to multiple Middle Eastern countries, and was about as successful as the war on drugs while normalizing drone strikes in record numbers in non battlefield areas. Some of his drone strikes had anywhere from 70-90% civilian casualties. If I remember correctly they also lied about those #s and tried to downplay them.

His flip flop on money in politics, went from denouncing it, to practicing it, to doing nothing about campaign finance reform when he had a chance. I think most of us agree money in politics is bad for business. One side says they're against it, both sides' actions say they're not.
I’ll give you these things. Some false equivalencies, like with vax and abortion, but ok, that’s a matter of opinion.

We’ll revisit this convo in the coming weeks and months and see if you still feel the same way when more explicit examples are there.

We could debate whether dems would have taken such a racist stance such as Trump’s stance with DEI, but we don’t have to go there now unless you do have an equivalency for it.

We could also debate him placing tariffs on Canada and Mexico.

We could also debate his unqualified cabinet picks.

I guess what I’m saying is there’s levels when talking equivalency.

I am fairly certain that $500 billion amount was for AGI research.

Artificial general intelligence (AGI) is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that matches or surpasses human cognitive capabilities across a wide range of cognitive tasks. This contrasts with narrow AI, which is limited to specific tasks.[1] Artificial superintelligence (ASI), on the other hand, refers to AGI that greatly exceeds human cognitive capabilities. AGI is considered one of the definitions of strong AI. Wikipedia

No one has actually made anything that can be credibly considered AGI.

The problem with these discussions is they never get past red vs blue/reps v Dems.

It devolves into "my side is better" but from where I'm standing i see blue/red on the same side so its essentially futile.

Many Americans Say the Democratic Party Does Not Share Their Priorities
Many Americans say they do not believe the Democratic Party is focused on the economic issues that matter most to them and is instead placing too much emphasis on social issues that they consider less urgent.

Asked to identify the Democratic Party’s most important priorities, Americans most often listed abortion, L.G.B.T.Q. rights and climate change, according to a poll from The New York Times and Ipsos conducted from Jan. 2 to 10.

Nah, I can acknowledge the fucked up shit either side does. It’s ok to say both sides do fuck shit, but to act like Trump isn’t worse is beyond the pale to me. Especially when it comes to black people.

When voters voted for Biden in 2020, they thought they were getting an old school, 90's era Democrat. Instead, they got more modern, progressive social shit and more neoliberal economic policies. Kamala was screwed by association (and her own words). People wanted semi-progressive economic policies first and foremost.
