In Tuner, Academy Award-winning director Daniel Roher’s first narrative feature, Leo Woodall stars as a gifted young piano tuner whose heightened sense of hearing draws the attention of criminals, who see his talents as useful for opening safes as for tuning Steinways. With his once-promising musical career over, he works across New York with his mentor Harry Horowitz (Academy Award-winner Dustin Hoffman), encountering a range of characters, including composition student Ruthie (Havana Rose Liu), with whom he forges an unexpected connection. Niki’s safecracking work threatens his budding romance with Ruthie and pulls him into increasingly dangerous territory.

PRAISE: There are some movies that i easily fall into the embrace of so much so i know i know 30 minutes in its going to be a favorite. This story about a gifted piano tuner's meticulous skills for tuning pianos lead him to discover an unexpected aptitude for cracking safes has a lot going for it. Right out the gate Leo Woodall as Niki White and Dustin Hoffman as Harry Horowitz provide such a vibe and lived in believable feeling of characters knowing each other for years that they make a great onscreen duo. Theres charm , jokes and care the characters share that gives the film a foundation to build on. The movie is filled with extremely likeable characters including : Havana Rose Liu as Ruthie,Tovah Feldshuh as Marla Jean Reno as Marius
and Lior Raz as Uri all coupled with an entrancing vibe I didn't want the inevitable shoe to drop. There are great displays of raw emotion, the plight of characters facing unforseen occurrences, that become hurdles and also a developing romance. So many strong story threads. Back to the other shoe dropping theres a glimpse that Niki sees and he and the viewer knows something is off but like the great KRS-One once wrote Love's Gonna Get'cha and that love pushes you to ignore the obvious problems coming his way.The blessing and curse of having a unique talent was brought out so well especially when its coupled with some great music and sound design from Will Bates and Johnnie Burn.

PROBLEMS: I had some minor problems with a the world is to small portion of the movie.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 9

One of my favorite movies of 2026
