Trump Wants To Federalize DC & Charge Minors As Adults

Who is ignoring it? You just don't actually realize the article you posted doesn't support the idea you were trying to push which is that residents want the military and other fed agents patrolling the streets. Those are 2 different things. And it also ignores that crime overall was already down and continuing to fall before they arrived.

My focus was on what the Mayor said more than anything else.

And, according to her, carjackings dropped 87%.

She also said she's looking to hire 500 police officers over the next several years, which tells me 2 things.

First, if she's saying several years......to me..........that means at least 10 years.

Second, if she plans to hire 500 more police officers, then DC has a shortage of 500 police officers right now.

So, with the National Guard and feds patrolling the streets, that coverage is already taken care of for as long as they stay there.

They don't really have to do much of anything.

Their presence alone is going to be a deterrent to crime.

Which makes things easier for the police because most police work is done after a crime has already been committed.

Less crime..........less police work..........and no need to worry about hiring more police over the next several years.

Provided, of course, that DC maintains a strong National Guard/Fed/Military presence on the streets.

Problem is that military isn't supposed to be doing this

The post you responded to was "is this what residents want" not "what did the mayor say." And your article is shitting on the mayor. So no, the actual people here don't want this. As for the rest..thats just you assuming. You don't know for a fact that its gonna take 10 years so all that is null and void. Their presence is more of an annoyance than a deterrent simply because folks ain't out as much to avoid the eye sore of seeing them. They're not scaring criminals theyre annoying the fuck out citizens and doing alot of trash pick up. Which if they hadn't eliminated those positions wouldn't need to be done. Trump literally helped create the very "problem" he's pretending to now solve and you fell for it again

I've made multiple posts in this thread.

However, the post you responded to was my post on the NBC article about the Mayor.

So that's what my responses to you were focused on.

Thanks for repeating what I just said. You just reinforced you being wrong

Ok, I understand now.

You didn't read the article........only my posts on the article.

So you're assuming that my posts aren't accurate because you don't think I know what I'm talking about.

It would probably make more sense to you if you actually read the article.

Several members of the City Council rebuked Bowser's conciliatory remarks, chiding her for characterizing the surge of federal law enforcement as helpful despite many Democrats’ warnings that Trump is using scare tactics to exert his presidential authority over the city.

"We should not, as the District of Columbia, be giving people the impression that this is a good thing, that we are OK with it, that it is helping the city. It is not doing any of those things," at-large Council member Robert White Jr., a Democrat, said in a video on X. "I am not OK with this. The average resident is not OK with this. D.C. residents, D.C. voters, are not OK with this."

Ward 1 Council member Brianne Nadeau, also a Democrat, echoed White's sentiment, writing on X after Bowser's remarks that D.C. is "under siege."

"Our residents are afraid, hesitant to go out & to work, angry that our limited autonomy is being eroded. There is nothing welcome about this," Nadeau said.

Bowser said she spoke to Trump on Wednesday afternoon, though she declined to provide details of their discussion and said the meeting was a "courtesy."

"I was reminded of our first meeting after his re-election, where we discussed shared priorities for the district," she said. "There, I was reminded that the president's interest in cities predates his time in office, and his knowledge of D.C. had significantly increased from the first time he was in the White House."

Asked what assurance she received that Trump won't try to go beyond the surge's 30-day period, Bowser said, "That was not something that I discussed with the president."

I definitely did. Seems like you didn't because...there's definite pushback on what she said. And she also mentioned a time frame she wants to have those new officers and it was nowhere near 10 years. Seems like you didn't read it. just saw the mayor quote and ran witu it assuming it's what people here want.

Quote the whole article next time bruh.

You conveniently left out certain parts of the article.

Let me fill in the blanks:

Bowser said that in the 20 days since the federal takeover, there has been an 87% drop in carjackings compared with the same period last year. The data cited also showed a 15% fall in crime overall in the district during the same period last year.

Bowser said the police department's ability to address crime in D.C. would be greatly enhanced if the department were able to hire at least 500 police over the next several years. Police Chief Pamela Smith also suggested at the news conference that the city has benefited from the federal task force formed to bring down crime and indicated it could be a solution in the long term “when we do see surges and spikes in crime.”

Let me fill in the blanks:

1. The discussion isn't about if crime was falling because it already was before the feds and military arrived.
2. The parts quoted directly relate to the question posed of do people want this. Which they don't. Which is proven in the article. There's no blanks to fill in. Just you trying to redirect the question you don't want to acknowledge

You're projecting now.

That's exactly what you're doing by not acknowledging what your Mayor said about the substantial reduction in crime since Trump sent in the National Guard.

Instead of addressing that, all you want to do is focus on whether or not the residents want them there.

Whether they want them there or not, there's no denying the reduction in crime.............especially since the Mayor can't even deny it herself.

You realize thats what you're saying right? I acknowledged the Mayor saying that. It goes directly against what the people here want. Fuck her. She tanking her career
