Oceanside, CA a few days ago:
Officials are advising the public to take precautions after several recent mountain lion sightings in #Oceanside.
The first feline was spotted yesterday on Freeman Street between near Michigan Avenue. Others have since been reported in the 200 and 300 block of North Coast Highway, the 1100 block of South Coast Highway, and on State Route 76 near Rancho Del Oro Drive.
“This mountain lion showed up at the Regal Theaters in downtown Oceanside at 2 AM”, one concerned parent told News Flash Media. “My kid was working. She heard a loud noise and this is what was at the front door.”
The California Department of Fish & Wildlife has been made aware of the sightings and offered some at-home tips, including the encouragement of children to play in groups with adult supervision and keeping pets on leashes and indoors. If on a local trail, the public is advised to wear brightly, highly contrasting clothing and to bring a whistle, walking stick or bear spray case anything goes awry.
If you encounter one of the animals, you’re asked to contact #Oceanside Police at (760) 435-4911 unless the animal is aggressive, hostile or seen near a school or park. In that case, you’re asked to call 911.
