Tipping At A Restaurant

I'm saying 1 dollar for shits and giggles, content material, but let's add in some real numbers, most make what, $3.25 or $3.75 an hour?

If they're at that wage, the restaurants shouldn't be charging 18 dollars for a burger or having crazy prices for their entrees

If a bill ends up being close to 150 -200 range, a waiter should not be making $3.25 in that establishment.

Profits are being made
you're not wrong....

if a place is charging $18 for a burger, and the average bill is between 150-200, and it's a busy establishment........the staff is making way more than 3.25 an hour. they're making over 500 a night in tips, they are getting a decent check from their wages....and they think you're an asshole for not tipping, but it's not the end of their life because of it...

you really are over inflating the power of your dollar....you're one of those people who say shit like "i pay your wages so you gonna do what i say" type of customers.... no one likes those kinda customers....

just don't go out bruh

the attitude you have towards tipping is why restaurants are a horrible investment. there's no real money in it...unless you're already well established....and in that case no one really cares, they just gonna talk shit about you for being cheap and broke.

you think you doing something profound, and you're being looked at as an entitled asshole.

you can still think you;re right....that's your prerogative, i'm just telling you...

by not tipping you're either 1 contributing to the failure of another already failing establishment
or
getting joked by the staff as cheap ass dude who think he on some enlightened dr umar shit....

it's not gonna go over the way you think it should

I'm cheap and broke and you mad at me for paying a $300 tap for me and my grandma while your boss only paying you $3.25 and you clock in everyday and smile with him or her and I'm the villian/asshole?

The staff all making 3.50 an hour and I'm Umar? Man that don't even make sense.

You wanna be made at the customer instead of being mad at the hand that supposed to feed you?

How you selling and getting mad at me because I aint tipping you at the end of the night, but letting your pimp, pimp you out for 3 dollars on the track while they getting the whole 150.

I haven't had shitty service in awhile. Definitely some meh food or overpriced food but that's usually when I'm trying out a new place or I'm going to one that's got a great vibe but it's not known for its food

Nah man, I appreciate all waiters, I tip my hat off to them, again, content, I just want to get the POV of this whole tipping aspect that is pushed on the American people.

I never understood it. I do my best to keep it simple and easy for waiters.

That part. Would you be on some "let me holla at the cook right quick"

I'll tell you what @Du next time you're in the city and you link up with @AP4.0 , I'ma pull up and tip lol

I know that cheap mfer aint tip the last time yall ate.

He'll smile his way out of tipping, get up and bounce and shit. Fuck nigga

If it's known for it then most likely no. I'd just not go back or just not order that again. If all the food sucks but the vibe is nice then I'd just not order food. If it all sucks then I just don't go back

Like there's this one spot I know that's got a great vibe but the food is one of those overpriced burger spots with meh food. You just go for vibes

you're not describing a real scenario.

i'm trying to stir you into the reality, and you're stuck on unrealistic hypotheticals that don't add up or make sense.

if you and your grandma run up a $300 tab at a restaurant,...just the 2 of yall.....you two are not the only $300 tab they are getting that day.
this is what i'm trying to get you to understand....you are the asshole, because if they have multiple $300 tables, most tables are tipping 20% or more...there's already a stigma that black people don't tip, and you're enforcing that stereotype

first $300 table=$70 tip
next $300 table= $50 tip
third $300 table= $100 tip
your $300 table= nuffin
next $300 table= $80

they already made $300 for the day, and they will likely have more tables...so yes you stand out as the asshole...

and if this place has regular $300 tables..and quality servers, i imagine they are making well over $10 an hour....so yes they are looking for tips...getting shorted does not fuck up their life.... but when it's 20yo something kid who has a great customer service personality, and is used to good tips...

they 100% gonna shit all over yall and talk about how niggaz don't tip.

that's the reality.

all that other shit you said is made up to fit an argument that really doesn't make sense when you shine light on it. you have to see the shit in real time to truly grasp what i'm saying....cuz this imaginary hypothetical of them only getting $1 an hour, and the restaurant is somehow making a killing where the owner is making crazy money while the staff starves is very very very unrealistic...

if wages are $3.50 or under.....the place is struggling, and that wage is indication of it. places that make good money pay good money....

because places that make good money, have good people that they wanna keep, that's good business....

if you gotta great server, and you're making a lotta money,....those servers get bonuses, those servers get raises, they get free shots, fre meals....they are making very very good money in places that make good money....

but if your servers are broke....your restaurant is broke. your food quality isn't as high. your space likely has a pest problem, cuz if you can't pay more than 3.50, you prolly cant pay an exterminator either and have sticky traps all over the place. if you're only paying 3.50 , you likely arent getting booked events like wedding rehearsals or receptions...cuz for events like that you need a good staff....you likely don' have a host... cuz hosts aren't "normally" tipped....

there are so many factors at play that you don't even consider

say something comes up that has to get sent bck to the kitchen....that shit gets thrown away, the restaurant loses money for having to make something twice. that shit gets comped which means on the books you will see where 2 steaks were made, but on'y one was paid for....

on a busy day a restaurant will throw away $1,000's of food that comes outta the overall profit of the resturant....every worker gets a shifty and a meal.....those get comped....it comes outta the profit....people will complain about their foood, that shit might get comped....resturants loose money all over the place.... but still have to pay people...and again...if they are paying people low rates....THE RESTURANT IS NOT MAKING MONEY...so how you gonna pay people money you don't have???

however the places that are making good money despite the comps typically pay higher cuz they have a team that is keeping them outta the red, and they will pay what's needed to keep those people....and tips definitely factor in....because outside of you most people who run up a $300 tab are tipping over $50..and as ive stated....thta server is walking out the door with enough cash in their pocket that you stiffing them isn't fucking up thier day,....they just talked shit about you in the moment....

or in the day of everything being on social media they made a post about it

bruh , AP went to two spots with me...

i actually got them to bring another table over to out table at dinner just so AP and his girl could sit with us....i don't even remember what we tipped, but i always tip heavy cuz i like good treament....AP was going to the bar during happy hour, they were bringing our drinks to us

"oh they with you?? why you ain't say something" shorty smilin and laughing... but this his city....smh

Nice way to dodge what I asked.

So, I'll ask again: If you made $600-$800 regardless thanks to your hourly rate, does it matter if the tables tip or not?
not really, but they'd rather not see you come back

This waiter is making 10 dollars an hour, why am I tipping if they are making well over minimum wage

Also, if black folks are already ding as not being tippers, me tipping won't change anybody's mind, Next week when 1 black person doesn't tip or doesn't tip enough, we will be labeled or talked about.

Again, tipping is not a requirement, doing your job is

it's a perk of the job....

during the pandemic i was working for a moving company .....bro told me the job was paying $30 an hour....most jobs only last like 4 hours.... but they get tipped a lot, and the tipped money is your money....

we was getting up to $100+ on some of those tips...so yeah, i took the job cuz i needed money, but i kept coming back cuz the tips were crazy.

it was hard as hell to turn down a job cuz the tips were cash that day instead of having to wait for payroll. same thing atta restaurant, half the allure is walking out the spot with a pocket full of money every single time you work. yeah that direct deposit comes twice a month... but nothing beats cash in hand that night.....

like who wouldn't wanna walk out with cash from their job every day??

how many jobs cash out their employees every day??

you think servers even report their full tips??

Should Crap shooter dealers, the floor gen all get paid at casinos? Should Card dealers get paid every time you win?

After every time you sat down at a table at a casino, would you tip the dealer after every hand you've played?
