The counter to that is one would expect a person in their 50s to have their life figured out and be financially stable at least. You're 10 years from being qualified to retire and collect SS (if they haven't removed it by then)

I acknowledge that is an optimistic perspective to have. That I may not myself have based on my own experiences. But my own experiences aren’t objective reality. So, I accept that as a possibility as well and thank you for sharing it.
 
I think I'm extremely vanilla compared to most people.
