The California Highway Patrol has released photos of the pair accused of shooting 6-year-old Aiden Leos to death over a lane change.
Marcus Anthony Eriz, 24, and Wynne Lee, 23, were arrested in Costa Mesa, Calif., on Sunday and held on $1 million bail each, reported KTLA-TV. They are expected to be charged with murder when they appear in court on Tuesday.
The California Highway Patrol said Monday that they have recovered what they believe to be the gun used to k*ll Aiden, and the vehicle from which the fatal shot had been fired, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Police praised the flood of information, surveillance footage and tips that had poured in from the public, the Los Angeles Times said. One of those tips involved an image of the vehicle’s license plate that cops were able to enhance.
The two were allegedly involved in a lane-change dispute with the boy’s mother, Joanna Cloonan, California Highway Patrol said in a statement Sunday.
The shooting happened on the morning of May 21, as Aiden rode in a booster seat in the back of a Chevrolet Sonic driven by his mother, who was taking him to kindergarten.
“On behalf of Border Division Chief Omar Watson, and the Santa Ana Area, we are deeply grateful for the professionalism and tireless commitment of our investigators who have worked on this case from day one to find those responsible for Aiden’s death,” said CHP Commissioner Amanda Ray, according to KTLA. “While these arrests will not ease the pain of a mother’s loss, my hope is for the Leos family to have some peace of mind and to rest a*sured the CHP will work with the Orange County District Attorney to bring justice for Aiden.”
