Netflix The Social Dilemma

Between this and the Great Hack it is clear that we have sold ourselves down the river with no turning back. The fact that machines are learning for themselves beyond the capacity of humans shows that we have even lost control already. The real ramifications will be clearer down the road, but you can already see that automation is replacing humans in all sorts of areas.

So as well as the social media side of things we are relying more and more on machines and sacrificing more and more real human interaction. Part of the reason why suicides are increasing in certain demographics. People feel worthless because they are being marginalised for machines and profits.

It was interesting that they didn’t mention net neutrality at all, and all the foul shit they talked about happened prior to it being repealed. Have to imagine that only accelerated the problem.

Plus the elections in Trinidad.

The fact that data is the most valuable commodity on the planet ahead of even oil tells us all we need to know.

What stuck with you the most?

Privacy and how information is being used has always been a sticking point on social media for me. Folks posting statuses, vacation pics or their meals and tagging the locations and the people they are with and times and all that. These companies just eat up all that information that people are willingly handing over for free, analyze it and use it in order to market something to you, or sway your opinion on something..

Even if you arent really posting on social media like that... they are aggregating the information from your reactions, or timing how fast you scroll and if you stayed on one pic or video longer than another and using THAT information to market something to you or sway your opinion on something.

That echo chamber shit is also disturbing as well.

It's alot to digest but those were the points that stuck out the most to me initially

I had never explicitly thought about my attention as a commodity before this

In their little side storyline as well when they noticed homeboy wasnt engaging like he normally would the algorithms sent notifications to try to get him to get back engaged and spending more time on that platform again.

Doesnt seem like it on the surface but that shit is wild as fuck. All these apps and platforms vying for your attention so these companies can sell your data to advertisers.. and Facebook has shown they dont care who the advertisers are or if what they are advertising is misinformation or potentially dangerous
