I feel you, but that's because we weren't part of the programming. To those white people it wasn't just "somebody wanting to read a book." It was "these people are coming to destroy our way of life." It's been the play for a long time and we still see it today. Rich white people use poor white people as attack dogs against nonwhites and other minority groups, but it's all just a smokescreen those rich white people use to hide their real bad acts.
