He worked in Lincoln's cabinet too, but quit because he didn't think Lincoln was serious enough about freeing the slaves. He's pretty much what people give Lincoln credit for being. While Lincoln freed the slaves because he thought it was the only way to preserve the union. Clay just wanted the slaves freed because he didn't believe in slavery.
