The Official World Politics Thread

You would think war between Saudia Arabia and Iran would be a good thing.

Let them weaken each other while you prop up the country in the middle east that you have the best relationship with. Not Turkey, any other one.

In the short term, oil prices will sky rocket. The war between the two will likely have other countries jump in. In the long term the two biggest destabilizing forces in the middle east will weaken the fuck out of each other.

Iran will win that war btw. As a country thats been under sanctions for decades, they have had to think outside the box and become very creative with how they spend money in their military budget. Saudia Arabia on the other hand have just been spending all their money on whatever the US says.

I would love Trump to be on his isolatanist shit here and be like nope, not helping either side, yall figure it out. Ofcourse thats not gonna happen. Cant let the Saudis of all people be destroyed.

As a middle easterner, there is no one I hate more than saudia arabia. Fuck Iran too, but Iran is still better than Saudia Arabia.

Shows how much Trump has lowered the bar for political discourse
that shit doesn't bother me but you can tell who is being corny andwho is not this is how people talk but if people are being endeared because they throw a few words out than that's wack Vote for BETO he said fuck...

TThe political discourse has always been performative.

House Oversight Opens Probe Into Elaine Chao’s Alleged Use Of Office To Benefit Family

The House Oversight Committee has opened a probe into allegations that Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao has used her office to benefit herself and her family.

In a letter to Chao on Monday, Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) argued that several media reports in recent months had indicated the transportation secretary — who also happens to be married to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) — had used her official position to promote her family shipping company within the Chinese government.

The congressmen also pointed to a trip that Chao was supposed to take to China that was canceled in October 2017. It was widely reported that Chao attempted to include her family members in official meetings with Chinese government officials. The committee is also interested in probing why Chao decided not to divest from her stock in Vulcan Materials Company, a construction company that “depends heavily on infrastructure funding allocated by DOT,” the letter said.

“The Committee is examining your misstatements of fact, your actions that may have benefitted the company in which you continued to hold shares, and your compliance with ethics and financial disclosure requirements,” the two lawmakers wrote, asking for documents relevant to the press reports by the end of the month.

Report: Bolton’s Already Shopping Around For A Book Deal

Former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s reportedly already looking to land a book deal on his experiences at the White House after his unceremonious ouster less than a week ago.

According to the Daily Beast, Bolton’s been in talks with several literary agents about the potential tell-all.

One of the Daily Beast’s unnamed sources said that Bolton, who parted ways with President Donald Trump on a noticeably hostile note, “has a lot to dish.”

Though it’s unclear what exactly Bolton plans to disclose, Trump and his staff reportedly have a system to persuade an outgoing aide not to write embarrassing exposés about the administration.
