Russian State TV Mocks Trump’s July 4 Military Spectacle: ‘Putin’s America’
An American military parade? Color Russia unimpressed.
According to the Washington Post, reporters from the state-owned Rossiya 1 channel greeted President Donald Trump’s July 4 display of tanks and jets with scorn.
“The greatest parade of all times is going to be held today in Washington, that is what our Donald Trump has said,” journalist Yevgeny Popov, who co-hosts Rossiya 1’s “60 Minutes” program, said sarcastically. “The American president announced he would show us the newest tanks.”
Olga Skabeyeva, the show’s other co-host, also mocked Trump’s tanks, saying that “the paint on these vehicles is peeling off.”
“There are no cannons, and their optics have been glued on with adhesive tape,” she said.
The Post’s report also mentioned Skabeyeva pointing out the hypocrisy of Americans holding a military parade being seen as a show of patriotism while military parades in Russia are seen as dictatorial.
“Americans are allowed to hold a parade because theirs is democratic, but we are not allowed because ours is chauvinistic,” she said.
Skabeyeva also tweeted a video of the tanks being transported to the National Mall, where Trump held the event.
“Putin’s America,” she wrote with a laughing emoji.
Biden Says He’d Be Open To Appointing Merrick Garland To Supreme Court Again
2020 Democratic candidate Joe Biden said that he’d nominate Judge Merrick Garland to fill a potential opening at the Supreme Court if he won the election.
During an interview with Iowa Starting Line that published on Friday, the Democratic primary frontrunner discussed former President Barack Obama’s attempt to appoint Garland, only for Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to stonewall his efforts.
“I think we should have been a whole heck of a lot harder on [Mitch McConnell],” Biden told Starting Line reporter Pat Rynard.
When Rynard asked if Biden would be open to nominating Garland again if a spot opened in the Supreme Court during his presidency, the former vice president responded with “Sure, I would.”
“By the way, he’s a first-rate person,” he added.
But unlike 2020 rivals Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Kamala Harris (D-CA), Biden said he’s not open to expanding the Supreme Court.
“No, I’m not prepared to go on and try to pack the court, because we’ll live to rue that day,” he said.
This guy truly is a ‘Great Value’ version of Trump..
Susan Collins On Kavanaugh: ‘I Do Not Regret My Vote In The Least’
Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) has no regrets about being the decisive vote to appoint Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2018
The New York Times published a profile on Collins on Saturday, which explored the Maine senator’s future after serving during President Donald Trump’s presidency.
Collins’ vote in favor of Kavanaugh, who was accused of attempting to rape Dr. Christine Blasey-Ford, was highly polarizing. Conservatives applauded her, while those on the left swore to unseat the moderate Republican for helping solidify a conservative SCOTUS that could overturn Roe v. Wade.
However, Collins hasn’t been swayed by the controversy.
“I do not regret my vote in the least,” she told the Times.
Collins, who’s served four consecutive terms in the Senate, has yet to formally announce whether she’s running for reelection in 2020.
Several Democratic challengers have already stepped up, including Maine House Speaker Sara Gideon. In her campaign announcement video, Gideon cited Collins’ Kavanaugh vote as an indication of Collins “falling in line behind the demands of someone else,” such as President Donald Trump and Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
