(Reuters) - A media adviser helping the Republican-led Senate Judiciary Committee respond to a sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has resigned amid allegations of his own sexual misconduct, a committee spokesperson said on Saturday.

Garrett Ventry, 29, a communications aide to Senate Judiciary committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, was "one of several temporary staff brought on to assist in the committee’s consideration of the Supreme Court nomination," a Senate Judiciary Committee spokesperson told Reuters.

"While he strongly denies allegations of wrongdoing, he decided to resign to avoid causing any distraction from the work of the committee," the spokesperson said.

Ventry was previously fired from the office of North Carolina House Majority Leader John Bell because a female employee of the North Carolina GOP General Assembly accused him of sexual harassment, according to NBC.

In a statement to NBC, Ventry denied any wrongdoing.

Christine Blasey Ford claims Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a high school party 36 years ago. Ford has until 2:30 p.m. Saturday to notify the committee whether she plans to testify before congress, according to the New York Times.

NBC first reported Ventry's resignation and the allegations against him.

Jason Miller Steps Away from Role at CNN

CNN commentator Jason Miller is out at CNN.

Miller announced the news on Twitter Saturday night.

The statement reads, in part: “I have decided to step away from my role as a political commentator at CNN to focus on clearing my name and fighting the false and defamatory accusations being made against me.”

Reports have recently surfaced that Miller drugged a woman with a smoothie to induce an abortion.

The account, first reported by Splinter, was found in court documents related to a custody battle between Miller and former Trump campaign operative A.J. Delgado.

Miller’s legal team has strongly denied the accusations found in the court filing, telling Splinter, “To be clear, there is no validity to the false accusations made in Ms. Delgado’s filing…We also know the identity of the ‘Jane Doe’ referenced in the filing, have located her, and Mr. Miller is absolutely certain that he does not know her, never had a relationship with her, and never engaged in the actions Ms. Delgado—and now you—falsely accuse him of committing.”

Kavanaugh Faces New Allegation in New Yorker: He ‘Thrust His Penis in Her Face’

On Sunday, the New Yorker dropped a new bombshell report that Senate Democrats are investigating a new allegation of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

The second allegation dates back to the 1983-84 school year when Kavanaugh was a student at Yale.

According to the New Yorker:

As Senate Republicans press for a swift vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court, Senate Democrats are investigating a new allegation of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh. The claim dates to the 1983-84 academic school year, when Kavanaugh was a freshman at Yale University. The offices of at least four Democratic senators have received information about the allegation, and at least two have begun investigating it.

The offices reviewing the allegation say they believe it is credible.

“This is another serious, credible, and disturbing allegation against Brett Kavanagh. It should be fully investigated,” Senator Mazie Hirono said.

Deborah Ramirez, the accuser, spoke to the New Yorker and came forward to lawmakers after days of consulting with her attorney and going over her recollections.

According to Ramirez, Kavanaugh was at a dorm party when he thrust his penis in her face.

“She remembers Kavanaugh had exposed himself at a drunken dormitory party, thrust his penis in her face, and caused her to touch it without her consent as she pushed him away,” the New Yorker reports.

The New Yorker reached out to other students to corroborate Rameriz’s claims but were unable to confirm with other eyewitnesses that Kavanaugh was actually there.

“The magazine contacted several dozen classmates of Ramirez and Kavanaugh regarding the incident,” the report reads. “Many did not respond to interview requests; others declined to comment, or said they did not attend or remember the party.”

Kavanaugh has denied the accusation calling it “a smear, plain and simple.”

White House spokesperson Kerri Kupec also called the latest allegation a “coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats designed to tear down a good man. This claim is denied by all who were said to be present and is wholly inconsistent with what many women and men who knew Judge Kavanaugh at the time in college say. The White House stands firmly behind Judge Kavanaugh.”
