It did prior to the Fairness Doctrine being abolished in 1987. Used to be that News was a loss leader and thus not subject to the need to grab ratings through sensationalism. I doubt we ever put that genie back in the bottle, but we can dream.

HA!!! When i used to live in the bahamas in the late 80s. Our tv (1 national network) turned off at 12 midnite. And came back on at 12 noon the next day.
We didnt get US cable till the early 90s.

We got US cable in 91 too. Watched Jordan beat magic n the lakers in 91. That was the 1st finals i ever watched live at home. Shit was goat lol
