'The Eternals' Eyeing 2019 Production Start

Marvel Studios is putting all their eggs in The Eternals basket as a new report suggests the movie could start production less than a year from now.

According to That Hashtag Show, The Eternals will enter production something in September 2019, cementing it as one of two Marvel Studios' properties of 2020.

Although the property has yet to be officially announced by Marvel Studios, studio boss Kevin Feige previously discussed the potential of introducing the class comics group into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"Well, one of the cool things about that property and what Jack Kirby did with it and what's been done with it in recent years is it does tie into they're called Eternals, they've been around for a long time. You know?" Feige said. "There's this notion of all of these myths and legends that we know from ancient times, were they inspired by the Eternals? Kevin Feige: Were they Eternals?"

"It's a very ... you know, it's an ancient aliens kind of sci-fi trope that we think would be fun to explore someday."

The Eternals were a group of characters initially introduced to the Marvel Comics mythos by the King himself — Jack Kirby. An ancient race of science experiments, The Eternals were created as a direct result of experimentation by Celestials. Celestials, of course, were the supreme beings initially introduced by Benicio del Toro's The Collector during the events of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).

Even though we know nothing about the plot of The Eternals, there's on Marvel Cinematic Universe superstar that'd like to appear in the flick — the Mad Titan himself, Josh Brolin.

"You know what, I don't know what the future brings and who knows, but love the idea of something infinite like this," Brolin reflected. "I've never been involved in sequels. The fact that we've done some of Avengers 2, oh sorry, Avengers 4 but Infinity War 2, I'm going back. I'm going to do more, and we're going to do some re-shoots and all that."

"So, I'm excited about all that. I love the Russos. I love working on the Avengers. I didn't think I was going to and I actually loved it. I didn't even like it. I loved it. I like playing that character. It's a Brando-esqe, Apocalyptic Now character and it's fun, but you know, I don't know. I don't know what the future holds. I've been surprised my entire career so we'll see."

Marvel Studios has reportedly tapped Chloe Zhao (The Rider) to direct on a script from brothers Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Zhao will be the third woman to direct a Marvel film behind Anna Boden — who co-directed Captain Marvel with Ryan Fleck — and Cate Shortland, the director helming the solo Black Widow outing.

Next up on the slate for Marvel Studios is Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019. The fourth Avengersmovie hits theatres on May 3, 2019 while Spider-Man: Far From Home swings into cinemas on July 5, 2019. Marvel has nine release dates claimed through July 2022.

Ryan Coogler Reveals His Approach for 'Black Panther 2'

After Black Panther became one of the biggest box office hits of the year, and sparked a worldwide social movement, it was no surprise that Marvel Studios was quick to bring back writer/director Ryan Coogler for the film's sequel. Unlike the first movie however, Coogler knows that there is an added pressure this time around.

Not only does the filmmaker have to once again produce a great big-budget film with beloved comic book characters, but he also has the added challenge of keeping pace with the success - both critical and financial - of its predecessor.

While speaking with IndieWire this past week, Coogler talked about the added challenge of creating a sequel, something he has yet to do in his short career.

“I think the pressure is kind of always going to be there,” Coogler said. “I’ve had a chance to make three feature films, each one of them had its own very specific type of pressure. In the process of it, it feels insurmountable each time.”

Despite the added pressure, Coogler is sticking to his always-cool demeanor, focusing just as hard on Black Panther 2 as every other movie he's directed to this point.

“When it comes to making a sequel, I’ve never done it before, a sequel to something that I’ve directed myself,” he added. “So I think there’s gonna be a lot of pressure there, but what we’re going to try to do is just focus on the work, like we always do. Really try to go step by step and try to quiet everything else around us, really focus on trying to make something that has some type of meaning.”

As of now, Coogler has yet to begin work on the second Black Panther movie, and that likely won't take place until 2019. However, when the time finally comes, it sounds like Coogler will be ready for the challenge

I bet Drax and some of the other Guardians are gonna get offed because they were complaining about James Gunn being fired,I'm guessing that's what some of the reshoots were for.

I do too. They mentioned that Guardians 3 would have significant lineup changes though a bit before IW came out. Definitely wouldnt be surprised if Drax is gone after IF2 tho

I'm hoping for his success. I want another good BP movie, and I'm sure he can deliver. I just hope that the movie isn't hurt by the super high expectations. The movie shouldn't have to gross as much as its predecessor to be considered a success, but that's probably the standard they are holding it to.

I think they said that GotG3 would mark the end for the lineup, but I think they were expecting the movie to follow that lineup. If some of the Guardians don't come back after A4, I think that will be a pretty big departure from what they had planned.

I expect the same people who cried over the financial and critical success of the first to point to that same success as the reason why the sequel isn't as good.

That's how idiots operate.

Yep.

What's crazy is I can see the sequel being a better movie, but not doing as well financially. Regardless of the movie quality, it won't be the cultural phenomenon that the first one was. It can't be.

I know by now Infinity War memes are old but idk why this is so funny to me
