The official COVID-19/Coronavirus Discussion Thread...aka I hope I don't get the Rona

Right, so 6 months ago I posted in this thread about Dutch bloodbank Sanquin and Ms. Van Gilse - the one that derived the anti bodies from cells etc and shared the data with the scientific world - and that they were developing a medicine for the Rona based on said antibodies.

It's in Dutch but the good news is that there is a working medicine against corona now. So no need for a vaccine etc right? The meds only need blood/plasma donations of people who recently had the Rona to produce sufficient amounts of meds and one would think that there are enough of those right?

The bad news is that the European Union ordered hundreds of millions of vaccines already, from Pfizer to AstraZeneca and u name it and those lobbyists have won it seems.

So we finally have that 'miracle medicine but are just gonna ignore it cause money talks...

This is Google translate transcript from the Dutch state media article:

Corona drug from blood first available to cancer patients

The Sanquin blood bank has 4000 doses of antibodies against corona available. Minister De Jonge of Public Health says that the drug will initially be used to prevent people with a weakened immune system from becoming ill after a corona infection. In recent months, Sanquin has collected blood plasma from thousands of people who have endured a corona infection. As a result, they have developed antibodies against the virus.

The new agent has now been developed from these antibodies. A working group of employees of the blood bank and medical specialists has considered which group should be the first to be considered for treatment. The working group recommends using the drug preventively in people with a weakened immune system who may have become infected with corona.

Vulnerable elderly These are primarily people who receive cancer treatment or who suffer from a serious lung disease. At the same time, a study will be conducted into the effectiveness of the drug to prevent infection in vulnerable elderly people in nursing homes. Sanquin will continue to collect plasma and expects another 4,000 doses to become available in January.

I think they can co exist. I'm not sure if the vaccine completely eliminates the symptoms it teaches your body how to fight it?

So there's a scenario where you can pick up covid medicine like cold or flu medication

Yeah the vaccines that are being developed right now seem similar to the flu shots in a sense of that people would have to take em annually or every 2 years or so.

I think we ll have a 100 different variations of covid meds around this time next year.
