The official COVID-19/Coronavirus Discussion Thread...aka I hope I don't get the Rona

Here in Holland kids have been going to school since half May - sans masks, no fatalities thank god - and kids below the age of 12 don't have to wear a mask in public transport...

(medical) Masks mainly work properly when you only touch them twice - to put on and to put them of lol - there is a reason why surgeons don't touch their masks during surgery and get handed the scalpel...

I'm not saying that masks don't help, just stating that there is a certain etiquette of mask usage that needs to be followed or else all these efforts are futile. An etiquette that many adults don't follow let alone kids...

Masks are not going to prevent kids from getting the virus and if the plight is to not get kids infected than schools shouldnt reopen... There is no middleground here lol.

I'm not anti mask - wore them all the time back in China n indo and here when I'm catching a flight - and I keep my distance as much as possible, just following the Dutch government guidelines... Say what u want about those fucks but they did a better job at fighting the virus than their fuckboy us counterparts.

RIVM won’t introduce new face mask rule
An RIVM spokesperson told NOS that there was ongoing research into the effectiveness of face masks, and that all the existing research was continuously evaluated by experts. However, at this point in time, the RIVM said there is no proof that wearing non-medical masks prevents infections.

Experts up and down the country can’t seem to agree on whether or not wearing masks in public spaces will play a significant role in preventing a second wave of the coronavirus. The Outbreak Management Team (OMT) looked into face masks in June, and found that the advantages and disadvantages of wearing a mask contradicted each other, concluding: “There is not yet sufficient scientific evidence to encourage the use of face masks in public spaces. In exceptional situations, consideration could be given to using non-medical masks when it is not possible to follow general measures, such as in public transport.”

The OMT also fear that wearing masks on a regular basis may give members of the public a false sense of security, and lead them to not follow or forget about the rules that are already in place. The government has asked the OMT to look into face masks again, and offer advice on whether current measures should be changed.

Andreas Voss, member of the World Health Organisation expert team and head of microbiology at a hospital in Nijmegen, said he didn’t personally believe masks should be made mandatory, stating that because in many of the countries where a face mask rule has been implemented, there are several other measures also in place, so it is impossible to determine the impact of masks specifically.

Many people are asking for masks to be made mandatory
The mayors of Amsterdam and Rotterdam have called for the Dutch government to put plans in place to ensure that, should infection rates continue to rise, new measures can be implemented as quickly as possible. And, a leading science professor has asked the government to make wearing face masks mandatory when indoors.

Furthermore, a group of experts who were asked by Health Minister Hugo de Jonge to evaluate the existing coronavirus policy in the Netherlands asked for masks to be worn in all catering and contact professions.

The WHO currently advises people to wear non-medical face masks in places where contact takes place in public spaces. Voss says this advice was issued, not because of scientific evidence, but because of political pressure and public opinion.

This last article is from the Dutch government news outlet where the head of the RIVM - a virologist - explained during today's press conference why they are not advising for mandatory face masks...

So far these fucks have contained the virus...

Do u know what kind of treatment is being used for ppl testing positive for the virus?

Do u know what kind of treatment is being used for ppl testing positive for the virus?

Remdesivir is the only EU approved medicine so far but there is a lot of experimenting going on due to the given that the virus is new and that most people who do get hospitalised have pre existing conditions need a cocktail of treatment unrelated to what one would get if it was only corona... For example people who had thrombosis or longembolism are in danger of those conditions returning and need different treatment than a person that had no such conditions. It must be stressed that the vast majority of positive tested people do not need treatment so a positive test does not equal treatment.

Good news is that the Dutch government is sponsoring a treatment - which hopefully will reach the market in October - that in theory will cure the Rona(only has been proven in the lab so far) . Marit Van Gils discovered the cells that generate antibodies and they're testing the medicine - taken from the blood of recovered covid patients of blood Bank San quinn - on animals right now.
