The official ATP/WTA thread 🎾

The umpire followed the rules patrick was coaching wether Serena took notice of it is different situation.

It was just a messy situation they both handled it poorly Serena when she calms down will look back at this as a regret

Osaka deserved a better outcome to the final.

Towards the men final delpo has to win it.
But there are a few issues here...every coach does what Patrick did even Naomi s coach was doing it also the referee should ve been clearer but often English is not the umpire first language....the racket break come on fam niggas don’t even get warnings for breaking their rackets ....she was out of line for calling him a thief but in the heat of the moment but in Serena s mind she been a pro for 21 years now has never been accused of cheating so u can see why she reacted like she did

Nah Djokovic bout to eat in straights or 4 sers

Mouratoglou later admitted to the host broadcaster, ESPN: “I’m honest. I was coaching. But I don’t think she was looking at me. We have to stop this hypocrisy. Sascha [Bajin, Osaka’s coach] was coaching too. She shouldn’t have to think about that. She should be able to express her emotions. She’s human. It’s not a big deal breaking a racket. Not once in my life have I been penalised for a coaching violation.”

Serena Williams speaks at post-match press conference
Some excerpts from Williams’ post-match presser:

Q. You were very graceful at the end to not mention what happened before. Patrick Mouratoglou say that he gave you some sort of advice when you got the warning for coaching. So did you understand that? You didn’t realize?

SERENA WILLIAMS: So, I don’t know. I literally just heard that, too, when they prepped me to come in. I just texted Patrick, like, What is he talking about? Because we don’t have signals. We have never discussed signals. I don’t even call for on-court coaching.

I’m trying to figure out why he would say that. I don’t understand -- I mean, maybe he said, You can do it.

I was on the far other end, so I’m not sure. I want to clarify myself what he’s talking about.

U can tell these women on espn are low key

Because Patrick said yes I was coaching her....did u watch her post match interview where she was like she had to text him and ask him what the fuck he was talking bout when he said he was coaching her
Oh damn I didn't hear him say that. In the replays she wasn't even looking at him when he did the motions.

Honestly tennis is weird like that where your coach can't say anything. Every other sport the coach has his hand all in the mix but tennis they expect the coaches to spectators and fans.

Serena has played several matches where Patrick wasn't even in attendance. So chair fucked up by even bringing that to her cuz she of all people don't even deal with coaches like that.

That shyt was wild.

I feel sorry for Naomi to have a moment like that kinda get overshadowed in controversy. Big big props to Serena for tellin the crowd not to boo, and acknowledging that this was Naomi's moment.

But I don't understand why tennis doesn't allow it.

@Elzo69Renaissance shed some light on this. Why is coaching against the rules? Other individual sports have athletes have their coaches off the side somewhere, giving instructions and etc.

So why do tennis shun this?

Honestly I have no idea I’ll look into the history ...but tennis especially the WTA tour has been experimenting w on court coaching as of late....

Osaka seem to have way more dog in here than the other youngins(Keys, Stephens)

Can’t wait to see the next time she square off with the GOAT. I want Serena to go through her for 24
NAh man plenty of ppl had that one run in a major and u never heard from them again

we need to see how many times he's made that type of call before and to who, because if it's just Venus and Serena.....

Serena has the backing from the tennis world but everyone is saying she should of let it go and continue it after the match.

The rules of the game needs to be addressed. The umpires hasn't had a good tournament

Tennis world low key hates the Williams sister but success brings fake smiles.....like I said every coach does what Patrick did so they have to address that but Carlos was out of line
