National team association should just avoid the bad pr and tell the women you have two choices : 1. Strong Fixed pay period or 2. Low base plus Earnings based on sporting achievements, with the latter having potential to be highly lucrative IF SUCCESSFUL ie win tourneys.
I know USA did the same proposition for their women and rapinoe tried to renege after the fact and make some convoluted arguments about equal pay against the men, but I think clear guidelines and explanation to the players with transparency on their collective decision would avoid such a farce this time round.
